Anyone have experience with Fine Design's LST2 conversion parts?
 

I'm thinking of converting my LST2 to brushless since it's not selling on another site. I found that I can pick up the motor mounts and battery tray from FDM's site and it looks pretty straight forward. Any one ever used their stuff? If I can convert it, maybe I'll get to use it without noise complaints :intello: I'm basically looking to drop the hardware in along with an esc and motor and run the truck. Nothing too complicated

I believe his conversion kit is just a couple basic clamps and a shite looking clutchbell superglued to a pinion that then mounts on the motor shaft. Probably works, but I wouldnt buy it personally.

I have had no problems with his parts. They are expensive though.

I did buy this kit from FDM about 2 - 2 1/2 years ago and it was definitely the first and last transaction I did with him.

The battery trays suck, the motor mounts are just motor mounts from boats that don't even fit the nitro mounts (I had to do a lot of dremeling to get it to work), and the pinion is what neil described (if you run it when it is too cold out there the glue will get brittle and the internal pinion can break off.

Since the Tekno RC motor mount fits in the stock nitro motor mounts holes you may want to contact them to see if that would work in the LST2.

I found the mounting the batteries to be one of the hardest parts of the process. You may want to consider a RCM battery mount and then mount it where the gas tank is (will still require some cutting of the plastic).

The FDM LST2 pinion will probably work out okay for a short while until you can find a better pinion.

Also - that is a heavy truck - what are you thinking of running for a motor? You can't do it on 4S with that weight - you'll need minimum of 6S with a ~1700kv motor to keep stock to slightly better than stock speeds and you will suck down mega amps - get good 30C lipos.

Yea do something else bro! If you have an lst I think you can just buy a muggy chassis then get the rc-monster conversion for that. It would be 10 times better.

I dunno is that another guy looking for a Monster Mike Mount for an LST2 ? <cough>

Mike needs to make a mount that is similar to the revo mount that will fit an lst. I just finished making my own mount for my aftershock and it was a pain in the a$$. I did whip up a battery tray pretty fast though...

Only store bought part for the conversion on my truck is the TDR single speed hub. That way I can run motor brakes and reverse, and put the battery tray in front of the tranny.

Would all the LST2 parts then bolt right up to a muggy chassis? I know I would need the center diff and the dog bones, but other than that, would it work?

I'm almost certain it will. Check the exploded parts on Losi's site first, the entire front and rear of the LST is the same as my muggy as far as I know.

And if you go muggy you'll have a way lower CG for better handling. Try and snag those muggy parts off feebay.

Unfortunately, Mike does'nt offer a mount for the LST. If you want to purchase a mount the only current option is TDR, "The Dude Racing". He is almost done with the first batch and may still have some available. Check em' out in this thread over on LST Forums:

I chose to fab my own. Not too difficult but does require some tools, knowledge and time. My truck came out really nice; it has had no problem running with any nitro I've raced against so far(have'nt raced against the Traxxas or Losi guys yet). Check it out here:
