E-Slayer build on the horizon

So I made some "impulse" purchases yesterday:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWN:IT&ih=013

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWN:IT&ih=014

I have a ton of Revo spares floating around, so I figured that I could have some fun and "build" a Slayer! I was just going to buy the suspension assortment, but I saw the chassis lot and just had to have it. That way I can keep my tekno revo together, as it was going to be the donor truck.

I have a revo tranny that is locked in 2nd gear, with the wide ratio gearing. Going to use that with a hacker c50 13l on 5s lipo. Most likely going to give the MMM a try, but I have a quark 125b as a backup. Not sure on the gearing yet, but I will be using 1/8 buggy wheels and tires. I have a set of badlands, and some crimefighters.

Looks like a fun project, should have the parts in by the end of the week.

After seeing all the goodies you have, I am sure it will be sick.

Cool, those were great deals for all those parts.

Thanks Chip, hope to have it done during the weekend... Should be a bolt together and I appear to have all of the parts I need.

Thats what I though, $180 shipped for most of the truck. Not sure what I could get if I bought a complete truck and sold what I did not need. I just did not feel like parting a truck out to recoup some money. Plus I know me, I would have pulled the nitro stuff and sold that, but keep the complete roller. So this way it is cheaper, and I can dip into my unused parts stock...

I have the tranny, knuckles, battery tray, motor mount, and body here. The tranny currently has a center diff, which I think I will leave in it. So it should handle well. I think the badlands wil be a good tire for this truck!

Lincpimp I bought a Slayer tonite and intend on converting it also so I will be following this thread.I allready have a MMM v2 and Tekno 1515/1.5d.Will the Tekno Revo conversion work with no additional needed items since its a Slayer.

It should work fine. I will be using the tekno battery tray, but have a different motor mount, as I do not care for the clutch. That 1.5d will be crazy in the slayer. I am going to run buggy wheels and badlands on my slayer. I am not all that impressed with the stock tires on the slash which are very similar to the tires on the slayer...

Will RCM motor mount allow a pinion and not the clutch. What mods. need to be done?Do I remove the Slayer transmission I am not familiar with the Tekno Revo conversion but I ordered 1 anyway.I have heard though that there is a center diff for the Revo?Slayer?I would prefer the pinion over the clutch. And I assume that I would not need the mech. brakes then. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a crazy set up. I would advise the clutch set up with aggressive tires and the mech brakes to allow some tuning and some slippage in each respect. I know one thing, no matter which way you go, I wouldnt run it full throttle over your front lawn with those tires unless you want a bunch of little parallel drainage ditches criss crossing all over the place.

Unless you lock the 2 speed tranny in 2nd gear you will need to retain the mech brakes. The rcm mount allows the use of a std pinion. The tekno mount places the front of the motor farther to the rear to allow for use of their clutch adapter and the stock clutch. You can space the front plate of the tekno mount forward and use a pinion instead of the clutch.

You can buy a center diff for the revo, it should fit in the slayer, but has different gearing (I am not 100% on this, someone else will need to clarify). The internal gear ratios are different between the revo and salyer due to the smaller tires on the slayer.

Maybe the 1515/1.5d is too much.I think then maybe a 1512 or even a 1509.

I think 1515 on 3s would be a great reliable set up with a good balance of weight on the chassis but I must say that the 1512 tossed my e-revo around like a rag doll on 4s but it was easy and smooth to real it in. The 1512 wont exceed 115 degrees no matter what I do. I'm very new to the brushless scene but I will have first hand knowledge of an E-slayer with MM, 3s and a lesser quality motor in a couple days. We will toss in the 1512 to campare.

60mm 2k medusa worked good in mine on 4s and shifting 20/36. So much air going thu the body it stayed around 120F motor & ESC. How many rpm's does the TRX3.3 make? What kv on 4s would be close to stock nitro speed?

phatmonk 09.12.2008 07:13 PM

Yes the Medusa is a great option.I have wanted to check these out.:whip:

The slayer should be a bit lighter than a revo, and has much smaller tires. I would think that a Medusa 60mm would be fine. My hacker c50 13l is about that size, and those motors work great is 1/8 buggies, which are comparable to a slayer.

Got some parts!

Look what the mailman dropped off today:
