MMM Lives Again

Well after my initial problems with my brand new MMM V2 (see my other post http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/showthread.php?t=14887) I got it out on the track this weekend. I got thru two 4s 6000mah lipo packs and one 4s 5000mah pack without any problems at all, the MMM/truggy performed great. It was a practice day but I ran the truggy under race like condtions with several JBRL 1/8 buggy racers out on the track. I had an Eagle tree data logger hooked up and the temps look great. No temp for the ESC (only had two probes) but I checked it several times with a temp gun and it never got over 140 degrees max.

Ambient temps low 90's

Motor temps 162 degrees max, average 119 degrees
Battery temps 132 degrees max, average 104 degrees.

Ran 16 mins straight at race speeds:

Temps after 5 mins
Motor = 115, Batt = 104

Temps after 10 mins
Motor = 139, Batt = 114

Temps after 15 mins
Motor = 158, Batt = 131

1/8 Kyosho ST-RR truggy conversion
Neu Tekno 1515/1Y
17/49 gearing
Front mechanical brakes/rear motor braking
Maxamp 4s2p 6000mah and Neu Energy 4s1p 5000mah batteries
Monster Mamba Max with external CCBEC

130 is getting warm for a battery? my max amp pack got that hot but the ones i got from mike ran 20 degrees cooler in the same car.

Thats def hot for the battery! I've come close to that in an E-REVO but that has the batteries closed up with little airflow. You should consider gearing a little lower and/or getting some more air to your batteries.

Hey guys, you think 130 degrees is to warm after 15minutes of hard running? The ambient air temp was 93-94 degrees. I will try gearing down a little and see what happens. Thanks for the feedback.

Hey,

Are you going to try 6s with the MMM? Most MMMs die when used with 6s.

Shark413 09.16.2008 03:49 AM

captain harlock, I only have 2s, 3s and 4s lipo packs and I am very satisfied with there performance on the track with the 4s. Plus I don't want to kill my brand new MMM on purpose, I'd rather let Castle handle the stress testing. I just want to run my buggy/truggy without any issues. May be down the line when Castle figures out what is causing the failures with some of the MMM I would like to try a 5s pack, just to see the difference in performance (speed, temps, etc).

Im a bit concerned on the batt temps. My lipos got to 140 after they dead shorted for 30 seconds once:whistle. But after a 20 minute bash with hard acceleration to hard stops and running on grass my batts dont get over 100...EVER

Shark413 09.16.2008 12:44 PM

Andrew32, I heard the max temps for a lipo were 140 degrees, I know I was close but I figured it was a very hot day, it was running full bore for 15 minutes in a big heavy truggy. But I guess your right, compared to the motor and ESC it was much warmer percentage wise. So I will try gearing down and see how it runs. Thanks for the feedback.
