nothing but temps?
where does everyone take temps on the mamba monster max?(it's mostly plastic)
does anyone have a problem with Fixed emissivity on their laser temp guns it says it doens work on shinny surfaces, is my blue Medusa shinny enough to fall in that category. also which one do you own and what is your distance to spot ratio d:s if its more than 1:1 do you have to use it at that ratio for best results? thanks, in other word im looking at getting a temp gun and i think i'm reading into things too much  |
I use a duratrax flashpoint and a cheap gun looking one from harbor freight. I usually try to get reasonably close, and move the gun all around the area to get some sort of average idea. Motors tend to get some areas hotter than others. Lipos are the same way. I have not had any issues with false readings. If you size the battery and motor correctly and gear for about 40mph you will most likely never have temp issues... Some experience helps though.
For the MMM I usually temp the connectors on the board, where the motor wires plug into. From my experience, it never gets over 150, and then the fan comes on for about 10 secs or some. On my modded MMM that has the fan run constantly it never beats 110. |
I just use the 'wave it all around the esc' method myself, and go by the highest temp and take that into account- never had it above about 130*f though. With my motor, I just run the gun up and down the length of the can, and see what the highest temp I get is; anything over about 180*f and I take a cooling down break. Same deal with the A123 cells, but they rarely get over about 110*f.

Sometimes I can smell its too hot. Just play around with your gun you'll get the hang of it. I like beaming my laser on street signs while driving, not other drivers tho.

I use the Duratrax Flashpoint. My ESC (MMM V1) has never gone over 125F

ok here is my gearing (the lhs was out of 38 tooth spur gears and i have the 40tooth) and it is geared for 40 but my motor is getting hot and nothing else its the narrow gear set. do i need to gear up to bring temps down?

Yep, if it is just the motor thats running hot, try going up a few teeth at a time and see how everything reacts.
