One of my Bday gift got here and somewhat modded
Just got my Mamba Monster today and did my little MOD. Nothing special, but I'll let you guys see what I did. I noticed that the phase plugs seems to be touching the heat sink, so it might get shorted unless the space is so small that my 30yr old  eyes can't see. I removed a little of the plastic off the bottom of the case just bellow the fan connector. The connector is actually 1mm or so too tall and after I did it the PCB sits flat on the bottom of the case. I added some foam to the bottom just to eliminate any more movement. The top case had a problem and you can see I removed some plastic to allow the male plug to go in with no issues. I will run the ESC in my BPP with 5S and 6S powering a Neu 1521/1Y with 20T/65T gearing. I will also be running the old version of my 6S ESC Here are the pictures:

My MMM V2 has a bunch of mods, but I missed this one until a friend of mine pointed it out. It's been running good for a while, but I now see that two of the motor connectors are touching the heatsink. So far:
1. Case bottom mod 2. Case top mod 3. Remove fan 4. Disable BEC 5. Run Rx Lipo w/regulator 6. Change switch to MM switch (so it doesn't turn off mid-race) 7. Rx cable opening made bigger 8. Rx cable shrink wrapped 9. Connector/heatsink contact mod coming High maintenance little controller! |
If Castle could insulate the outside of the power cups with some sort of shrink, it would help center the heat sink more precisely during the assembly process.
Your heat sink is hugging the cups on the motor side, where mine is hugging them on the power side. |

wow. ok, so your power wires are safe but the motor ones could short? as sike pointed out ours are the other way round. oculd this be the fatal error? would be an easy fix... make the heatsink have smaller cutouts :)
could that cause the instant failure??? short for a brief moment which cooks something and everything seems cool? |
