BL Ofna 9.5

Not sure if I've posted this here before, so here's a new thread about how I converted a Ofna 9.5 to BL power.

Yup, got it running tonight too......oh man, this has got to be my most favorite-est car EVER!!! The TF trays went in without a hitch, and hold the cells soooo much better, even bring them in toward the center a bit. I even wired in a couple PC fans, one on the controller and one on the motor, directly tied into the power leads of the 9918.

I also took it out for a quick 5 minute run, man o man, this car rocks! I've never seen or driven a car with such amazing throttle response, the Lehner 2800xl (especially on 14 cells, like tonight) absolutely slingshots it to speed, but the darkness and half wet street from recent rains didn't do much for traction so I don't know how the 7,000wt fluid in the center diff is working. As it is, I'm confident I could smoke any takers, nitro or electric.

Best of all, everything stayed super cool with the fans, the motor was 110 and the controller peaked at 85........I was really hoping to keep this setup, and now with the fans I think I can.

Come on dabid, it's not nice to tease us with this beast and not include any pics.

nbcaznmaster 11.12.2005 08:44 AM

now im JELOUS!! thanks alot!

Pics? Why? You've all got imaginations! I've gotta take off for work in a little bit, but will snap some shots of it when I get back. It's not all too different from the last layout, but a whole lot cooler looking and even a bit cleaner.......and dirty from bombing around on wet grass and having fun.

Dang it, today I killed a spur while trying to show it off to the guys at work....and I was only revving it in the air! Somehow, one of the teeth went, and a whole bunch of its friends decided they didn't want to stick around either and sheared off......when it was all said and done, only 15 out of 51 teeth were still on it....I'll have to shoot a pic of how bad it looks.

Anyway, I pulled one of my new ones out of the package, and (on the advice of a coworker) boiled it for 10 minutes to soften it up a bit and hopefully make it last longer.

lol, its a perfect circle!!! Boinling really works? i woudl think that it weakens it....

d,

What are the dimensions of the OFNA center diff? I'm looking at installing one in my next ride but wanna see what its gonna take to do it.

The boiling trick does in fact work. It softens the nylon a little, which makes it less brittle. The spur is about 53mm in diameter.

Do you know the length from one end of the drivecup to the other? And are there other spur sizes available?

thx!

David, you should bring an extra one for the bash just in case! I would hate to not be able to race you just because of a silly spur gear ;). Speaking of spur gears, I should probably get an extra one too.

about 82 mm long diff cup to diff cup end for a ofna center diff

dabid 11.15.2005 08:14 PM

I could get you one on discount from Hobby People, and then boil the other 2 I have just so they're ready. A spur change isn't all too hard on this car, it just takes a bit of time.

The 7,000wt. fluid I think is still a bit too light, and the front is unloading big time......I think I at least have to go to 10,000.
