lipo and 9xl
i have finally decided i am going to get the 9xl to run in my brushless revo to race. mainly for longer runtimes and i dont need to do 70 mph on the back straight. i found some polyquest 3s 4000mah lipo packs and am wondering what kind of runtime i should expect under normal race conditions. also, whats a good charger that i could charge and balance 6s lipo on? i was thinking the mrc rb989 superbrain.
EDIT: the packs are only rated for 64 amps max. will these be ok? |
i also found some 5000mah 5s2p packs with a 60 amp continuous discharge. what kind of performance would i get from these in parallel?
|
Pack #1. That will work. Your runtime would probably be 15mins when racing. You could try the SB 969 for charging them since they have been upgraded, but I haven't heard anything about anyone charging Lipo with them.
Pack #2. LOTS of runtime. 10000mah should be enough to get almost an hour! Also, the batteries would not be the limit. Even one of the packs by itself would work fine. |
with pack 2 squee you may get about 75-90 min or run time. with pack 1 I would guess a good 25 min of run time. Just from my exiperence.

I don,t now very much about lipo's yet. i'am thinking about a lipo setup.
but I found some scary vid's. http://www.modelbouwbloemendaal.nl/N...p_40_76-1.html |
In case you can't read that language (I can't!), here is a direct link to the video:
http://ludwigdanninger.de/Videos/Son...Explosion2.mpg As far as the content of the video, that is definitely a possibility of happening. The chances of something as bad as that happening are very slim, though. I am sure that the person running the test set that Lipo up to a very high charge voltage, causing complete instability of the cell, which led to that explosion. But you can see that the pack let out smoke before it actually erupted. A normal person that monitors their Lipo packs during charge (and that check to make sure the correct voltage is set) should not have anything damaged because they would be able to either remove the cell from the area before an explosion, or cut the charge. Again, this is not normal for a Lipo because it was put through an extreme overcharge condition. Really the only possibility of this happening is from carelessness to check for the proper charge voltage before starting the charge. |
if ur careful, and not a complete moron! then u will be fine. Just follow dierections. I remember seein thes CEMENT clydiners taht u charge teh lipos in so its safe if it explodes!! lol, talk about using scare tatics for profit!
|
They aren't necessarily scare tactics. If a Lipo were to combust, then the flames could ignit some other flammable material. It is all very possible, and whatever can be done in the case of a failure is good.

If you right click on the link I posted, and click Save As, then you can download the video. That video came from the website you posted.
In the last video posted, the Saphion cells are the ones that I am just starting to use in my 1/8 buggy. Obviously they are rather stable! |
i think i am going with option 2. that will allow me to kick some nitro @$$. can i charge those packs hooked up in parallel? what would i set the charger at? 10 amps? and is there a charger that will do it? i know some only charge up to 7.5 amps like the astroflight if i am not mistaken.
|
lol, tahts gunna be crazy! NITRO!!! WATCH OUT!!! How much it costing ya?
|
lets put it this way, ima save at least 300 on these packs.
|
uhhhhh save 300 comapred to.........what? lol Did u find a REALLY GOOD DEAL???? share it with us!!!
|
your the reason i wont share it :L:. not to mention if you do a little research on how much a 5s2p 5000mah pack cost you can figure it out.
