Noob sayin hi
Hey all. I'm one of the noob/refugees from TRX. Figured I'd say hello over here.
Been bashing around with RC since April this year, started with a Losi MLST2, made some minor mods to it, then moved to a bigger scale and got an E-Revo in June. Currently running the E-Revo on 4s lipo, novak 5.5. I also have a kershaw designs 700HO I can swap in quickly if needed (running in wet conditions, or having heat issues, whatever). My current project is to lighten it, so far I've done the RPM true-tracks, red tubes all around, got some proline badlands on lpr rulux rims, and I'm looking at other ways of lowering the weight, especially unsprung & rotation mass. Loving the hobby so far, look forward to chatting with you all. - Tony |
The badlands are pretty heavy - removing those would be a start - Single Servo mod would help.
Once you've done that I would focus on handling and durability rather than weight. |
|
I am also a transfer from the (ahem) traxxas forums. I've been a long-time browser, so I thought now would be a good time to actually join.
What I like about rc-monster is you can discuss any type of rc. Currently running an e revo w/ Novak 6.5 (geared 16/68), Maxamp and True RC 8000 lipos. RPM all around, single servo, red tubes, Losi Grip Tires. Great, reliable, cool racer. |
Thanks for the chart - for an all-terrain tire, I didn't think the badlands were too bad. The chart has them at 178g.
What would you recommend for a good lighter weight basher? I haven't dug too much into the single servero steering, though I know it's an option. Will have to look into it as time & $$ allow. What do you recommend on the handling side? So far I've just done the true-tracks, and gotten a spektrum 3r, which both made a world of difference. My reasoning on going after weight first is weight = heat, and with the novak 5.5 lowering the temps would be a good thing. And hi Tedo :) - Tony |
I would look at a sway bar kit next - For bashing those tires are fine as normally robustness is favored over weight.
Big caution on RPM front arms if you are bashing or even racing those arms are not so good - They flex like mad and will cause your CVDs (if you use them) to bend... |
As Arct1k said, the badlands are great tires for bashing, they work on almost every surface.
Cleaning and relubing all of your ball bearings with synthetic oil is a good way to decrease resistance, and thus heat. Plus correctly shimming the diff gears and running good synthetic lube will also help, plus the diffs will last longer. These are relatively cheap things to do, but take alot of time and disassembly to do. Balancing your wheel/tires is good to do, as the truck will run smoother. Otherwise the erevo is a great platform, not much to really improve on IMO. Have fun and welcome to the forums! |
I hadn't done the front RPM arms, had heard basically what you mention. I don't use the cvd's.
I've thought about a swaybar kit, but have heard the traxxas one requires modification to fit, and it reduces its effectiveness. Heard the tekno is good, haven't looked into it much (yet). I do need to get a balancer for my tires. I keep my bearings clean & lubed, haven't torn down my diffs yet (was thinking it's a good winter project). I have no experience with shimming a diff, so that'll be a good learning experience. |
The teckno kit is good and requires no mods - 20min install
