MMM problem
just got it swtched back into my only working truck lastnight and gave it a quick test with no pinion on the motor and everything worked fine. then i unhooked the esc from my y harness to mix the esc and brake servo so i could program it on the comp. today hooked it all back up and nothing. it will calibrate, arm, and link to the comp. it gives tones thru the motor but thats it. when i give it throttle the green light on the esc flashes and thats it same for brake.
anybody know what could be wrong here. |
Check that your bats are no below the LVC on the MMM - I've done this before and it behaves exactly like this
|
Well, if it arms, it means power is getting to the motor. Try what Arct1c said, and if still not working;
1: Check radio settings and ensure EPA for both forwards and reverse is set to 100% and trim is centered. Recalibrate radio to ESC. If that doesn't work; 2: The instructions say you are supposed to recalibrate your radio to the ESC again after programming. I never had to do this, but something to try. If that doesn't work; 3: You said it ran fine before you programmed it, so maybe try resetting everything to default (maybe even reflash the firmware), recalibrate to your radio, and try again. If that doesn't work, wait for more responses or call Castle.... |
i know the batts are charged because i had taken them off about 20 minutes before this happened today. trim is centered and epa is at 150%. i had already recalibrated the radio to the esc.
that just leaves default settings and reflashing to try tomarrow. |
Call Castle and talk to a tech they can get you up and running without waisting time with maybes or what ifs.No offense Brian G.It can be very frustrating to buy anything new and not be able to get it to work when you are sure that you have it right.

That said, I would set the EPAs at 100% (not 150) just to see. I seem to recall an issue where setting it that high didn't work on another setup, not sure if it was the MMM, but you never know... |
in addition to above - set ALL trims to centre or 100%. disable brake mixing to see if thats stuffing it up. also switch 2 wires around. it may be that its doing 0 reverse and 0 fwd (casue of the mixing???)
anyway a few things to try. ryan |
still nothing, gives tones through the motor but when i squeeze the throttle the light goes green on the esc and noting happens. tried a diffrent motor to see if that was the problem but it was not.
im thinking about getting a mmm from rcm just to get me back running until the v3 is out. then ill send both back at the same time for a v3 upgrade. |
Not to put you down..in my first MMM this was the first sign before it just stopped working...after modding the BEC unit it worked then this happened again...still arming but no motor response after a few testing on newly charged battery ....its just blinking green like waiting for radio. I can still program but thats about it...
My 2nd MMM (after batts 7 cycles) did the same thing..I run it 6 cycles with default settings (even set no lipo cutoff but monitors batts with voltmeter) at cycle 7 the only thing I changed was lipo cutoff set to auto / traction control to 10% and braking set to 30% (drag not in use)... I am not speculating and sorry for the long post. I guess what Im saying is, in mine experience this MMM scenario means it is a goner.... |
The fact that the motor is getting tones means things are working. However, I still question the radio EPA/trim settings, or the connection (a poor connection could allow enough power to beep the motor, but not enough to drive it).
If possible, I'd let someone else check it out; maybe they'll catch something you didn't. Does your LHS have people there knowledgable enough to do some decent troubleshooting? I would hate to see you send it in, just to get it back with an NPF sticker on it (no problem found). Could be a legitimate problem, but it sure sounds fishy. BTW: I'm not trying to insult your intelligence, but we all have those forehead-slapping moments from time to time... |
Truckbasher: this is a v2 with about 30-40 runs on it. settings have been changed many times before with no problems at all.
i know what your saying brian about those moments. but all the connections look great im using the cc bullets on everything and they have been fine for the 30- 40 runs it has on it. i changed the epa's to 100 and it did nothing different. my lhs has about enough knowledge to change a light bulb. i have actually done more of their repairs than there tech guy has. all the way from a simple screw replacement to a full nitro motor tear down/ rebuild. they dont really deal with custom high power electric stuff anyways. they deal more stock stuff. they have novak setups, and a few mm but thats about as extreme as they get. and a 3s 2100 lipo is as big as they stock. if i brought my monster gt 8.0 with a working mmm with my neu 1527 1d and 4s 8k lipos they would sh** themselves. i thought it could have been the 8xl feigao i was using because its been 250 degrees plus before but it still works fine with my mm. then i tried the 1527 and that didnt work but the mm spun it fine. then i tried my 4130 outrunner for kicks and it didnt work but the mm spun it. with severe cogging but it spun it. all motors got tones with the mmm but thats it. i would hate to see myself send it in to and get it back with a npf sticker on it. thats why i most likely will get a mmm from rcm and use that until the v3 comes out, then ill send both in requesting the upgrade to the v3. it will save on shipping and i only need one controller right now anyways. |
Mine are both V2 as well...Im not implying that it was the settings that killed it...Im just saying the behavior is similar to those that failed...Hope you can revive them and that its just a glitch or something...I dont mind being wrong...
Or Another MMM from Mike is definitely an option |
do you have a simple old school am radio, with no advanced stettings?
use one of them - it will tell you if its your radio settings for sure. this is what i keep one of these simple idiot proof systems in my cubboard for :) good luck! |
