Lipo wont charge. help!

The other day my 4s battery stopped working. When I try to charge it on my hyperion duo, I first get "no balancer" then I get an output error. When I hook up my voltmeter to it, I see it only has 8 volts.

Is it done for? :(

If you are reading only 8 Volts... Something is quite wrong, obviously. For a 4S pack, you should be no lower than 12 volts. Did you over run the lack? Sit not used for too long?

No, I thought the MM was set for auto lipo, actually I'm pretty sure it was.

I'm reading that I should use the nimhs charger set to 200mah and slowly charge them to 12v then try again. Anyone have any success with something like this?

I've not done it personally, but have read of many who have saved lipo that way. Have seen typically 1amp used, charging as a NiMh only until voltage is back over minimum, 12v, stopping NimH charge and the starting a proper lipo charger sequence.

If lipo is pretty new and it has not puffed, prob will be pretty normal to use. If its older, pay attention when running and charging -may puff. Cell quality is diff it seems, better quality seems to tolerate overdischarge better than poorer quality cells.

Make sure none of the cells have puffed. Also check individual cell voltages thru the balance port. If they are wildly off you may consider charging the cells individually thru the balance port.

I would suggest a low charge rate, .5 amp max. If you can get the cell voltages over 3v each you should be fine. Be careful.

I have successfully resurected cells that were below 1 volt. Took a while.

What brand is it?

Also, set the MM lvc manually, I do not trust the auto lipo setting. Make sure your setting refelects 3.1-3.2v per cell.

Hyperion chargers won't charge if very very low - At about 2.5v they will charge at .1c and then switch to 1c at about 2.7c IIRC.

Only option is to charge as a 3s battery or NiMh at low amps .1c i would suggest until voltage increases.

As per comments check individual cells first.

I think the balancer wires may not be in order.

I have had this with other lipos. It kind of stinks but to get by I charged the lipo through the dean's connector. Try charging through a dean's conenctor, if you don't have a charger able to do that let me know and I will bring one this weekend.

This stuff don't happen to nimh.

Sorry. Could not resist.

Run Nimh in your buggy this weekend, put your money where your mouth is

Nothing has changed..

Anyone know how I set up my hyperion to charge individual cells, and how to tell the voltage of each cell???

e-mikey 10.09.2008 08:46 PM

my voltage is showing 0.00 for each cell. It's a max amps battery. I have a 300 cycle warranty. Will they see this as my fault? My charger is not even seeing the cells, it does with all my other lipos no problem.

Is it possible that bad balancer wires caused this?

e-mikey 10.09.2008 08:53 PM

lol..
It sees nothing untill I squeeze the pack hard, then the numbers come up like our national debt clock. every single cell has 3+ volts. As soon as I let go, all the numbers drop to 0.00

e-mikey 10.09.2008 08:58 PM

same thing with the volt meter...

not squeezed = 8.39

squeezed = 15.44
