Another G3R - Set-up for Racing

Hi Guys (& Gals),

I've been reading a lot here and working on my G3R. I am setting it up to race in the MT class. I have finally finished the build and started testing. Thought I would post a couple of pics.

One thing I am testing that has worked well so far is a piece of foam rubber under the Castle Mamba Monster. It is about 1/2" thick and is normally used for rc aircraft receiver installs. The foam is somewhat stiff but still has enough compliance to give a little. I have a version 1 Monster and so far (knock repeatedly on wood) it has worked well. It also still has all of its fan blades.

I am using a Neu 1515 1Y/f, 2 MaxAmps 8000 mAh lipo's, the Castle Mamba Monster, and Spektrum.

So far I am having a blast with this machine. :yipi: :yipi: :yipi:

Regards, Mark

Looks sweet man. Love it!

I doent care what anyone says about the new e-revos... The G3Rs are just aweome looking machines. And they perform on the track. I'm still wheeling the G2R and its a force.

Watch out for the motor wires rubbing on the front sway bars there....

very nice.ill take the g3r over the erevo anytime.

i would suggest using LPR tiress/wheels for racing though

I agree, I didn't have too many wire routing options based on how I wanted to balance the truck. So far everything is ok but I will be keeping a close watch.

Yes, I have those ready to go. I just like taking the pictures w/the bigger wheels, they look cooler!

Thats nice G3r, I like all the CF on it! What kind of speeds do you get with that setup?

Thanks! It is geared at 22/51. I was shooting for around 35 mph. That's about all I can use on the track. I haven't tested it on radar but based on my Mark 1 eyeball its around the 35 mph.

GREAT JOB Mark..:intello:

Nice placement of the ESC.. are you running that bad boy on 4s ???

I beat the crap out of mine on 6 & 8s every chance I get LOL.LOL

Seriously my GR3 is the badest of all my builds, it's tuff as nails and still love it every time I take it out..

Are you using the stock Diff's or did you get Mike's Hybrid diff ?? what kind of lubricant are you using in trans ??

One small suggestion if you don’t mind.. DO THIS TO IT..

Thanks Shaun!

Yes, I am running it on 4s (2 MaxAmps 8000mAh). I have a version 1 Mamba Monster so I am hesitating big time on putting it on 6s. With the Neu being a 1515 1Y/f would I be hitting the esc and the lipos too hard on 6s? I'm not sure.

I bought the Hot Bodies hardened truggy diffs and Revo Hybrid Diff Cases V2 from Mike. So far they have been bombproof and super smooth. I also used 8mm drive cups since the Hot Bodies pinion is 8mm in diameter. In the trans I only used the Associated black grease I had lying around. I'll see how long it lasts. :oh: I did put in a hardened steel idler and checked the gear mesh. So far it has been smooth as well.

I like your idea for the slipper. I ended up going with the newer Revo set-up and drilled a hole in the back of the Gorillamaxx transmission cover to accomodate the longer slipper shaft. This allows me to hold the shaft in place while I crank on the slipper nut. I need to race the truck a couple of more times to see how my slipper holds up. If my current slipper eats itself I will look into doing it your way.

Thanks for the encouragement Shaun! With winter coming in the Northeast I'm hoping to get some good video and pics come Spring (come on Spring! LOL).

By the way, your builds are the bomb, literally! :gasp: Reading the posts on your G3R got me started on mine.

Regards,

Mark
