help me understand this.... (MMM settings vs. amp draw)

ok, so I run a tekno 1515 1Y on 6S 4800mah in a Muggy. It is about as fast as your average rocket ship, only it accelerates much faster

It is WAY beyond driveable unless things are toned down quite a bit, and I know that this setup can be stressful on the components, especially my lipos. I don't want that.

So, my question is, if I tone things down A LOT in castle link, I AM reducing current draw and making life easier for my battery right? Are there any negative side effects or downsides to this? Specifically, I'm talking about lowering timing, dropping startup power WAY down, as well as punch control.

The only real way to tone down that setup and make it more driveable is to lower the kv or voltage. The 1515 1Y really is a 4s motor.

Increasing punch control is really your only option for reducing current draw. Neu says to run medium timing with their wye-wound motors. Reducing start power won't make a huge difference.

Put the amllest pinion you can get on it, but like Metalman said.... its really a 4s motor. Dropping a couple cells or getting a lower KV motor is really the only what to properly tame that beast. Something int the 1300 to 1500kv range would be right for 6s.

1700kv 1515 2.5d is a great 6s motor that also is good on 5s and can even be used on 4s with success

As stated above, go to a lower voltage or higher KV motor... or if you have the option- lower the EPA on your throttle though your radio

Reducing the size of the pinion will slow it down, but it increases the torque which will 1, greatly increase the front end lift and you'll be flipping front over rear a LOT. 2, it will greatly increase the stress on your drivetrain compnenets due to the increased torque.

The only REAL solution is to really just drop to 4S lipo and adjust gearing from there. You'll be MUCh happier and so will your rig.
