novak brushless kit's battery tray
 
does any one know if novak sells the battery tray alone? the one that comes with there brushless kit

Same here! It's just a piece of injection molded plastic... At least with Mike's tray you get a nice CNC milled tray.

Assuming the larger online retailers (amainhobbies or towerhobbies) start selling them the price will go down.
Personally, I purchased the whole kit when I found out I would be paying ~$70 for everything except the trays as I had mike make me some custom trays a few months prior. I have since decided to hold onto the "stock" trays incase I go to a smaller battery size.

I believe NovakTwo mentioned that the shopatron store is there for the hard to find stuff. It ships directly from Novak at the suggested retail price (because they do not want to undercut the hobbyshops they sell to).

The plastic battery straps are ideal imo. They spread the load across the entire pack instead of just the edges of the pack, like pulley straps do. I would buy them if the length was about 25mm longer, plus you get two for $40, not one. Sure they are injection molded, but lighter is better as long as they don't break.
