Here we go again... Xray XB8 EC
4 Attachment(s)
So I had told myself that I was going to take a break from starting any new projects or buying anything until the new year.... I guess that didn't last too long... I made it nearly four months without buying anything r/c related, but broke down and went on a binge recently. It just goes to show you that diets don't work... moderation is key. :intello:
I recently bought a new motor for my crt.5, new lipos to match, more lipos for my XT8, and finally this beauty of a buggy. This gorgeous thing was just sitting on ebay for $200 shipped, and had ZERO bids! So I had to snap it up... it would have been a tragedy to see it go unsold for that price. It would be like being able to draft Adrian Peterson in the 6th round and passing him up! You just don't do that. But, I digress... The chassis is the EC version, near mint condition, and has almost every cnc upgrade that xray offers. Plus a whole host of spare parts and fresh tires. I'll be transplanting all the electronics from my Jammin X1 to this buggy. They include a Neu 1512 2.5D, MMM V2, and 4s Neuenergy 5000mah lipos. I'm just waiting on the Xray motor mounts to come back in stock, and I'm all set to go. Hopefully it will be up and running in time for the next So Cal Bash. |
That car looks brand new nice find . How many models back is it ?.
|
Thanks rchippie. Its the 2007 EC version which is the model right before the current 808.
This buggy is still pretty cherry. Very few scratches underneath the chassis, and the only way you can tell its used from the top side is the slight wear on the brake pads/discs. |

Progress this week... didn't have too much time to work on it, but did enough to warrant a pic update. I was able to add the esc mount, battery tray, tires, and 16mm jammin shocks.
|
That battery tray wasn't removed from an older E-Maxx chassis, was it? I've got two of them that look just like that. Looking good so far!
|
What kind of batteries do you have that will fit that tray?
It looks kind of short. Most of the good battery packs are at least 160mm long. |
looks good ! im also curious as to what batteries your using.
|
The tray is indeed from an old emaxx chassis. The lipo's I'm using are Neu Energy 2s 5000mah hardcase lipos (x2). They are 137mm long, and fit in the trays perfectly if you stand them on their side. I like the whole modular aspect of these batteries since I can use them is 80% of the r/c's I own. I just had to dremel a little slot on one end give the balance tabs some free space. Here's a pic from my truggy showing the batteries (below). It uses the same tray. * On a side note... I actually noticed Mike just reduced the price on his battery trays. I'm strongly considering getting one, but I don't really have a need for the additional length.
http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/atta...0&d=1208715536 I also finished up the body last night. Same theme as my truggy. Luckily everything fit nice and snug on the first try. Hope you guys approve. http://image2-6.rcuniverse.com/e1/ga.../lg-159342.jpg http://image2-6.rcuniverse.com/e1/ga.../lg-159343.jpg |
WOW that body is kickass man the buggy looks great, i really like my 2s hardcase nue pack too i wish i would have ordered 2 instead of just one......
|
Fricken GREAT build Rich!!! :intello:
My only  (only) suggestion is too install the 808 shocks, other than that it's supper clean (as all of your build are).. Great JOB.. Two thumbs up..:great::great: How does it compare to your other buggy ?? |
Thanks guys.
Shaun, I have the jammin 16mm big bore shocks on it right now. Out of curiosity, how long are the 808 shocks? I think the jammin shocks may be better for my truggy since they are pretty long compared to the standard XB8 shocks. |
Hey Rich,
The front 808 shocks are 114.96 mm The rear 808 shocks are 124.02 mm Hope that helps ?? So how does it compare to your other buggy?? |
Well haven't driven it so far, so can't say anything about that, but as far as parts quality is concerned, its top notch. Just like all the other xrays I've owned, the parts just seem to fit better vs a comparable car/truck from any other brand.

Conversion Completed! :yipi::party:
I just received my motor mount from Daf the other day and here she is! I am in the process in working out the kinks and trying to get a short video made. This buggy is so smooooth to drive! Everything is nice and tight, and my first impression is a good one. Hope you enjoy. |
