5C charge capable NueEnergy Lipos??

Sorry if this is a repost

Hey guys I just happened by the Neu website and on their main page they are adverstising a new line of lipo packs that are capable of being charged at 5C. Sounds too good to be true, what do you think?

I want to see a 6s capable charger that can push 30amps during a charge.

Yah that was my thoughts exactly, we'd need to be carrying around automotive car chargers or something.

But if they work then that would be fantastic for my smaller capacity 2s and 3s packs for carpet racing. Also if its proven that they will handle the power im sure the charger manufactures would jump on it.

Heck... it would be nice just to feel comfortable charging them a 2 or 3c rates and knock the charge time down to 20-30 minutes with no worries.

But I just loaded up on the sale they had for their old packs so I dont think I'll be buying more any time soon.

Yah same here, your old Cen Truggy is now sporting a nice 5s 5500 pack :yipi:

Like you said though, even 2c or 3c would be great!

lol, charging a 6s 5Ah pack at 3C would require a charger with a 378w power limit, and a 12v supply capable of around 50A (figuring in charger efficiency and 25% safety margin).

Dual Hyperion 0610's running at the same time could hit those power levels, but their current is limited to 2c (10A). I don't think there is a charger on the planet that can do those levels of charge! You'd have to get a CC/CV power supply, but there are no safeguards like there are on chargers...

I can get one, but it'll cost a little.

5c Charge is insane. No way the battery can take a charge at that rate and not suffer in some other way, like shorter useful life. Besides, it's just silly, hopefully this "advancement" didn't come at the expense of truly useful enhancement such as size and capacity.

its done all the time with a123 cells. Why couldnt a new lipo chemistry achieve the same thing?

According to the Neu website the new 5c packs are the same size as their current 30C/60C EP packs, so size isnt the issue and they are offering a 5s 4100 pack instock right now and more capacities to follow so that doesnt seem to be an issue either. Im wondering about the useful life though.

That's crazy. I don't think there is a charger out there that could do that though

Should I mention that people have been charging A123 safely at 4C+ for some time now? Are the Neu packs LiPo, or those flat A123 cells??????

Good thought. Enerland did buy a123 so that seems like a definite possibility.

There are a few chargers that can. I'm thinking of getting one if I can get the manufacturer to lower the price.

It's the other way around. A123 bought Enerland.
