Speed Calculator on iTouch or iPhone

Just thought I would share something that I tried that is totally cool for an on the go calculation using the iTouch or iPhone.

I got an app for my iTouch called AirSharing. It's an Apple app (was free when I downloaded it) that allows you to basically turn you iTouch into a ftp site that you can connect via your web browser on your computer.

I uploaded the offline copy of BrianG's Speed calculator here:

http://www.scriptasylum.com/rc_speed/rc_speed.zip

Unzipped the folder structure and loaded the entire thing to the iTouch. Then when you browse the folder in AirSharing and run the index.html page it launches the full R/C Calculations page and is 100% fully functional.

Thanks again Brian!!

Very cool man. I have actually just been using it with the iPhone browser and have had no issues, works great. But this is even cooler and probably faster. I love being able to have it with me at the track.

Cool!

How does it look on a smallish screen? The site was designed for a typical large LCD/CRT screen, so I'd think the fonts would be quite tiny.

Also, does everything work? There is some DHTML that works in Firefox, IE, Opera, etc, but not sure how well it would work on a portable device. For instance, the menu is dynamically created via a jscript array, and scrolls down as the user scrolls down. Also, a couple of the pictures are assembled via seperate images and then layered on top of each other. Do those features work as well?

Have you seen the iPhone Dynolicious? It is a dynomometer that is extremely accurate in both HP and 1/4 times for a full size car, I wonder what it would do in an RC?

yay that is cool - please post up a full guide!

Sweet. I need to try this on my iPhone, very handy!

Any more details? did you SSH it over, or connect it from iTunes?

I've been using the browser for the RC speed calculation. I'll install that app tomorrow though!!

I downgraded from my iphone to a standard phone for picture messaging capabilities but when I was using it I was using the browser to get to the speed calc constantly! Everything is there and it works just like on a computer. It is much easier to do when you tip the phone sideways though as you can actually read the drop down menus for the different specs.

The app allows you to connect to the device via it DHCP IP address on a wifi connection and then just mount it as a file system and then you just copy files to as you normally would to any other folder.

As expected on a small screen it's a little tiny, but the app supports both the screen rotation and the pinch and zoom funtionality - so you can zoom in and out easily.

The menu selections work perfectly just like any other website and it comes up with a very cool scroll wheel to flip through each menu option.

Whats wrong with email pics? Email to to text, or text to email. Its not MMS, but it works. And you get to keep the coolest phone out. Especially the black one:intello::mdr:

Still have the phone! I'm hoping that apple eventually releases a software update to allow mms messages! Also to forward messages. I did manage to get my friends to start sending pics to my e-mail and I could get them on my phone. However I missed out on some "good stuff" that my friends weren't able to pass on to me! I also couldn't get videos from my brother that he took of my 1 year old niece. If apple makes some changes I will go back to the iphone.

you cant send mms with the iphone through verizon?? thats pretty lame lol, i got an unlocked one and have t-mobile, mms works

E-Revonut 11.13.2008 11:16 PM

Well first of all please remember that the iphone is set up to work exclusively with AT&T. Even an unlocked one will not work with Verizon. Also unlocking the iphone voids it's warranty. Yes it is lame that a phone that does EVERYTHING won't send a mms message! If AT&T/Apple can resolve this I will re-activate my iphone.

yea thats pretty lame, i just popped in my sim card and away i am lol
