HYDRA-120 Questions: supports 6S cutoff ??
1 Attachment(s)
I am going to config my EP boat, CC's HYDRA-120 seems to be a good fit, but I found its specs are confusing::oh:
Q1) Spec says the Hydra supports 6S LiPo with external BEC, but inside its manual, the HIGHEST Cutoff Voltage is only 12V for 4S. See the picture below Does this ESC support 6S LiPo auto cutoff? How to setup the right voltage value for cutoff? Q2) Will CC have a built-in switching BEC version coming out? It could be obviously easy for similar technique has existed in MMM. Thanks Guys. http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/atta...1&d=1227171114 |
I had one in my lst2 project and the only way to get to a higher voltage cutoff is to use a castle link and set it in the custom cutoff voltage

So does this ESC have an Auto-LiPo mode? Can it properly detect 6S LiPo cells ? |
I dont belive it has the auto lipo but you can set the cutoff voltage for a 6s lipo. I had mine set at 15.4volts for my 5s lipos.
I was upset when I looked at the instructions and seen that it only went up to 4s cutoff and said that anything past 3s would void warranty. I talked to castle about it and he told me it only voids warrenty if you go past 3s while useing the internal bec(OK). So I told hin that it only had up to a 4s lipo cutoff and the box said that this esc could handle up to a 6s lipo????? He told me that the only way to adjust the cutoff past 4s was to use the castlelink and go to the custom cutoff voltage and ajust it there up to a 6s lipo. It does go up to 6s but I only was useing a 5s lipo. This esc didnt have any issues push a 9xl feigao in a 14 pound truck. If you plan on going with more power than that I would suggest putting a heatsink on it and/or a small fan!!! The guy I sold my lst2 to runs the truck on 4s and the esc doesnt even get hot at all. We ran 4 5000mah 4s lipos threw here and the esc was 130* |
How long does it take to thermal running in your truck? Seems to me that you would cause some serious problems without adapting it for dry use.

Mine has never thermaled. I ran it for about 4 months throught the winter into the spring on 5s lipo (didnt have heat issues). I have since sold the truck to a friend that lives up the street and he runs it on 4s. He can run battery after battery threw it without issues. A 9xl(aka finedesigns xlt4) doesnt pull that much power. If you were to run a 8xl with a 4s or 5s lipo I would say put a heat sink on her. I bet you wouldnt have an issue witha 10xl on 6s geared for mid 40s. Long cool runtimes
