Are Losi thread on pinions hardened?

I am wondering if the stock thread on pinion gears that come with a LST2 clutchbell are hardened? I know that they are used with plastic spurs.

I only ask as the tin coated pinion gears seem much heavier than the stock ones.

Just checked with a magnet, and the stock losi gears are al... That sucks. I guess I will have to buy a few hardened ones from Mike.

Any other info is welcome!

Hi, that is my response!!!

Well I cured my own problem. The current 2 speed I plan to use has 46/42 gearing. And the tin coated gears are 18/25. So I did the math and found that I need to run 49/42 to match the pinions I have. So I "modded" a worn out 49t mgt plastic spur and it looks like it will work well.

Does anyone know of any 49t steel spurs, preferably not one that fit on a center diff. I will have to cut the inside out to a certain size and the bearing boss and assorted holes will be a pain to work around...

Take a look at Savage and SavageX spurs. 49 is a common size and there are lots of steel ones available through the aftermarket.

Thanks for the info. I ended up just searching "49t" on tower hobbies and found that the Mgt 8.0 uses a nice looking flat 49t steel spur. So I had a look on ebay and found it for about 9 bucks shipped. I will have my machinist cut/bore it to the correct dimensions so that it will fit on the 2 speed hub.
