i have an idea, i ran a 14.4 dewalt drill motor in my maxx quite successfully for about a year then finally went bl. i am thinking about fitting a savage 3 speed box in my maxx. running two dewalts two evx's , and 28 cells . any ideas. or instead of dewalts one b50 hacker.

T think the fegiao L OR xl would be better than the Dewalt'sand cheaper than the Hackerwith similar performance to the Hacker

I think the bl would be better. Have less cells and less weight as well. If it is not lehner 22series motor has enough torque to tear a truck apart. You got to love that. :D

So I've been reading up on electric conversion options for my revo. I just ran across the Kershaw link for the big brushed motors, and as that interested me, I've been doing some reading up on these setups.
Here on this website, everyone says NO to them, get BL'd. But normally there isnt any factual reasons behind those statements. Basically, someone like myslef is weighing three options: 1) Stock Emaxx setup, 2) Large Brushed motors (970's, etc), or 3) BL
To make a decision, one has to factor in cost, how you run your truck, when you run your truck, what kind of speed you want, what kind of durability you want.
Cost winner has to be given to the Stock Emaxx/Titans, then the big brushed setups. One thing I often see ignored when evaluating BL is the cost of batteries. One set of good 8's has got to run 100+. A lot of us already have good 6 and 7 cells for our rustlers/stampedes/rc10's etc....

Speed winner is likely BL, since there are so many options available. But with this the cost factor rises.

When/where you run your truck: I want to be able to run mine anytime I could run my nitro, and in slighty moist environment (here in the Pacific Northwest, we dont have an option). BL setups are well known to have a higher risk of smoking from water contact. How do the Dewalt motors react compared to Titans? I personally am not looking for the fastest rig out there, something in between a stock emaxx and stock revo would be perfect.

How about run times with the Dewalt style set up? Anyone have any info on this? I would assume it would be less than titans on the EVX (more power needs more input juice)

Batteries: I have several electric trucks, so I want to keep my batteries common, thus ruling out the 16/18/20 cell combo's. 12/14 is all I want to run. Lipo's are out of the question.

I'm just still trying to sort it all out.....being somewhat new, and having a engineers brain (not all that its made up to be folks!), makes me question the one liner responses to questions such as mine. NEED MORE DATA>>>>>>>!!!!!!

I never got my Dewalt to work in my Twin Force, my EVX hated it so it got yanked.......I've got a BL for it now anyway.

Those expensive battery's arn't a factor for bl only. Look at the performance gained if you hook 14 matched gp's 3300 charged on a ice or triton to your evx/ titan combo. It'll blow you away how much difference it make's with 14 non matched cell's charged on a 30$ charger.

I'd worry about power source before worrying about upgrading the powerplant. Your set up is only taking the power available, so no matter how big of a brushed motor you put into your emaxx, if the batt's aint right, no gain.

Also I doubt the dewalt motor's could generate enough rpm to trick the 3 speed tranny. Depend's on gearing too.

Batteries these days aren't all that expensive. From the store here, you can get 16 loose IB3800s for $100 that have already been zapped. I have heard that these cells are good enough that they are pushing 250amps in peaks for the airplane guys, and run well with 80amps continuous - even when not matched. If I had not taken the Lipo route, I would jump on these cells even with my low budget.

The Dewalt setup should get less runtime than BL, simply because it is not as efficient. It might take in close to the amount of power that a BL would, but its lower efficiency lowers the output power. Also, a BL motor would weigh less and perform better than a larger Dewalt, so for racing you would have another reason to go BL.

I agree that its fairly reasonable. But for me to do this conversion, with the intent of bashing only (I dont race at all), I need to have probably 3 sets of batteries. Thats 300 bones in just batteries. Whereas I already have 4 sets of fairly decent 6 and 7 cell packs, thus I wouldnt HAVE to go out an purchase any additional batteries. In addition, I can use my current batteries on any of my trucks, thus reducing the number of batteries I take along with me. My wife says I should reduce the number of trucks.....but what does she know!

Yes, runtime compared to BL would likely be less, but I'm also curious about the comparison to a stock Titan set up. Remember, I'm really considering three options here.

So how 'bout I add another wrinkle to it. I dont know anything about sensored/non-sensored. From what I've read, the Novack BL is a sensored set up. But it also can control Brushed motors. Everyone seems to feel that the HV-Maxx, as its sold, isnt powerful enough, but can it run different motors? Are other motors availble for use with that controller? I like the idea of being able to run either brushed or brushless....

Maybe I should just pull everything off and just push 'em around like we used to with our Tonka Trucks!

There are appropriate BL systems you can choose from to run with your current 6 and 7 cell packs. I run 14 cells on the 7xl, and for my bashing style, it is awesome. Sure I could go more cells, but I too dislike the expense of so many batteries. The other important thing is gearing. Please don't feel to go BL means new batteries.

I can't comment too much on the stockers except for I wanted more out of the truck, and the titans weren't the answer. Furthermore, for me, the HV-Maxx wasn't the answer either. I bought the MGM controller to go with the Feigao 7xl because the Warriors weren't in stock. For me, this was the best upgrade I put into the truck.

ditto. brushless will be a good fairly low cost option and will provide the best of both worlds runtime and power. i have an revo i converted to electric that will run 50 mph on 12 cells and still get 12 minutes of runtime on 4 year old 2400 sanyo cells.

hi me again, i race and can definitley confirm that you will get more torque and speed out of the dewalt. i was running 27/66 gearing and on a short winding track could reguarly compete successfully with bl. batterie maintenance a must. by the way i am not saying it is faster than the bl but faster than the titans. i actually won the 04 state titles against a pretty much full bl field , with titans = 14 cells. the bl boys over here are as far as i know going to try to rewrite the rules so we cant race our dewalts with them. so there is some more info to decide on. my evx didnt have a problem with the dewalt and still doesnt. maybe your gearing wasnt in the ballpark. by the way if i cant get the jist of the bl i will go back to the dewalt. by the way cost is next to nothing.
