7th scale on road project

So I have a lightning street on road car. It has a .26 in it, and with the 2 speed is good for 45mph. It is a fun car, but I hate nitro, and have not run it for at least a year.

So I decided to make a fast on road car. Planned setup is a kb45 8xl on 6s lipo thru a MMM. I have all of the gear to do this, so I only need to make a motor mount and battery trays.

I will retain the 2 speed and mech brakes. So much room on the chassis that it does not cause any issues, and the lack of reverse is not a big deal as I have large parking lots to play in.

Current gearing is 46/42 spurs and 13/17 on the clutch bell. I plan to use 18/25 pinion gears, as I have them. This requires me to swap the 46t spur to a 49t for proper mesh. This poses a problem, as the steel spurs are specific to this car. I have a mgt 8.0 49t steel spur coming, and will have my machinist mod it to fit the 2 speed hub.

I may also have him make me a motor mount. The kb 45 motors have a 30mm spacing and use m4 thread screws, so a rcm mount will not work. I cannot use any adapter, as the motor shaft will not be long enough.

Heres a link to a few pics:

I will get some of the stripped chassis and my proposed layout.

Is it 4wd or 2wd?

DO you have a different body than the advertised one? Kinda fugly in the awkward blue color but the project should be fun.

4wd, center diff

Sounds good. Why not just have mike make you a motor adapter?

It is basically a HB lightning buggy with a stretched center chassis. I only have the skyline body, but the blue is much nicer in person, less watery looking than in the pic. I may investigate to see if the dm1 bodies have the correct wheelbase...

Actually it has a 2 speed, but thanks for playing...

From what I can gather Mike is extremely busy, and I would hate to bother him.

Thanks, I like to have a few (10+) projects going at the same time. I just pick what to work on depending on my mood. For the past few months I have focused on crawlers, before that it was monster trucks. Now I am back to speed, so on road cars will keep me entertained. I have this car, a new gtp, and my 10th scale tamiya tt-01 to fix and modify. Something is going to beat 100mph, and I will have video proof!

"Actually it has a 2 speed, but thanks for playing..."

so its direct drive to both diffs? I knew it was 2 speed, but I've seen center diffs with 2 speeds. My bad!

They just removed the center diff and replaced it with a 2 speed. So the center shaft that the spurs ride on is solidly connected to both diffs. I prefer the solid center for on road, makes drifting more fun/easier!
