For Sale Threads?
I have a question...
Why can't a price be listed in a for sale thread? I find it annoying to have to pm everyone that's selling something only to find out what they are asking is way more than I'd like to spend. It would be much easier and save everyone involved time if a price was posted. I just can't see the big deal with putting a price up. |
I agree, but I am used to the system on rcc. A for sale section would be nice.

An actual for sale section would be nice too. I just didn't want to push my luck on that one:lol: |
This has been gone over and from what I understand the for sale rules are a friendly gesture to assist active members of RCM. However, Mike does not want a for sale section with a lot of people like on RCtech and others than has to be moderated and maintained. For the most part RCM self moderates and stays pretty calm compared to the majority of forums out there and that is how Mike and the rest of us like it. If it's enough of a concern, just list your item with all the info on another site and link it in this forum like many others do.
I think the best example of a well run FS section though is the one on RCC for sure. It's clean and gets the job done. |
Mike's site - Mike's rules - The end...

This community is designed to support Mike's business. As such, it was not intended as a place for others to sell their stuff. It is allowed obviously, but there are guidelines we ask members to follow. Considering that Mike pays for this site out of his own pocket (notice there are absolutely no advertisements) these guidelines are a courtesy to him.

Yeah, you gotta think of it this way: If you were paying some high fee for a support forum for the products you were trying to sell (and making your sole living this way), would you want people indirectly taking business away by selling their own stuff?
Also, some sales tend to go sour and then you have bickering between members, which detracts from the experience here. Not to mention some people may hold Mike responsible since the sale did originate at his site. Remember, this is technically a "support forum", but over time, it became a hang-out as well. I've talked to Mike a few times about this subject, and believe me, Mike isn't really keen on the for-sale system, even as it currently stands. I think we're lucky to have it at all to be honest. |
All I was thinking was, If you can post it for sale how come a price isn't allowed? That's all... not saying we need a separate section or anything like that.

Because this is a site for gentleman and money is a grubby subject...
This pops up once in a while but the response is consistent and generally widely respected. |
It's because it saves space on this forum, and in this case space=money. So, if prices were posted up it would turn into a 10 page thread saying, "would you go any lower?" And if the prices were not on here and the thread was not locked it would turn into a 10 page thread saying "YGPM." So, it's just a way to save space on Mike's site and make less money come out of his pocket. Mike, I think you have the best forum of all that I have seen. It's clean, funny, informative, and a great connection between generous rc-heads (like myself) and can also be a good spot to blow off some steam or ask stupid questions. We're all like a big family here, and Mike is our elder (or principal if you like to think of RC-M as a school.) We have to respect him as he is god to most of us (including myself) and our support puts food on Mike's table. Mike, thank you for creating the best forum on the web, and thank you to whoever had the paitence to read this long post.

Leave the threads as they are, locked and in the general section, but allow the person to put their asking price in the description. If you see something you are interested in you then take it up with the seller in a PM. I never said the thread shouldn't be locked or anything like that. All I asked was why a price couldn't be listed in the description. I've seen answers and opinions from everyone except Mike... just because I have a low post count doesn't mean I don't support Mike, I have bought my share of things from him in the past (look at what year I joined here). If he comes here and says "because I say so" then so be it. I just didn't think a price listed in a post was bad thing. And if my question was stupid I apologize to you the Almighty internet forum God... |
I follow what your saying but its mikes forum.. what he says goes... we cant do anything about it. so many before you have tried and failed. and If the people are going to pm you about the truck, shipping info, etc etc why cant they just pm asking for a price?

To answer your question; I don't think anyone here knows specifically why prices aren't allowed, except for the cyclops himself.
