Pinions keep getting stuck!!! Suggestions?

Well it has happened a few times lately on my bl systems. I go to take the pinion off the motor and the grub screw comes out fine. Then I go to take the pinion off and it is stuck. It happened on my 8s , GTB and HVmaxx. I use RR pinions.

What is happenning? Does this happen to others?

I tighten the grub screw on the flat side.

Yup happens to me all the time, the shaft gets scratched up a bit and grips onto the pinion. I just use pliers to pull it off.

Getting them back on after that is never fun either. Do you have this problem as well?

As usual, after each run and befor each run always check your machine and also stay away from Robinson pinions ( specially the enlarged bore types) and try to use some grease to smoothen the bore and the motor's shaft. Using a sand paper to clean the shaft and also the inside of the pinion. If I have any other suggestions I'll tell you immediately. Nice to see you again.

I couldn't get my pinion on last night either. I smothed the pinion hole out with my dremel and then it when in fine. (sorry if that sounded perverted):D
I didn't want to dremel the shaft on the motor because of metal shavings.
Metal shavings + motor = bad. Unless you tape it and are very careful of course.

An automotive "battery terminal puller" will work wonders for getting the gear off, I use a hammer and "light taps" to get the gear back on. For whatever reason, my RC Monster mod1 12t pinion likes to get stuck on my Lehner 2800xl's shaft, that terminal puller has saved me so many times!

same thing with me, its a pain to get out someties, but at least u know the pinion wont fall off! lol

I've made a large pinion puller by modifying a bicycle chain tool, it worked pretty well on my Feigao. And for putting the pinion back on you can squeeze it gently in a vise or large C-clamp end to end, which supports both ends of the shaft helping to not push it out.
