Novak Pinions

I am building a MBX6 conversion using Mikes motor mount. I purchased a RC monster pinionand a Novak Pinion. The Novak has the set screw to far from the gear therefore it does not sit in the flat on the neu motor. Are the rcm pinions the only ones that have the set screw close to the gear of the pinion?
Is it advisable to extend the flat on the motor shaft via grinding? Are the Losi pinions made by Novak...there stock number start off NOVxxx?

The RRP pinions are like the RC-M ones. Yes, you should/can extend the flat spot. The losi pinions are made by novak.
