MMM 6s vs. 4s
 

Alrighty, heres a big 1. I've read sever threads saying that 6s is overkill on the MMM. I dont have the $ for both setups, so tell me what you think. This is going in an e-revo, but data from anything helps. Please post vehicle, battety setup, temps, and performance notes. Thanks!!!

Do you race or bash?

Im a basher, I bring my trucks to skool sometimes and luv 2 show off. I may to a tiny bit of track running (no legit racing), but mostly hard bashing geared for torque/low temps

I think you would be better off with 4s. If you just bash and show off then you don't need 50+ mph. But just my 2 cents.

Just because you run 6s doesn't mean you HAVE to go fast. Just get a 1515/2.5d or 1515/1.5y, or any motor with ~1600kv. Current will be lower and things will stay cooler.

you want to show off = 1515 1y on 6s, runs cool geared correctly yet is so fast you cant control it lol 2d on 5s is my sweet spot though

I am running 4s on my E REVO and I think its enough , plenty fast , and soooooooo much torque !

Temps are so low I dont think any component has broken 100 degrees yet , though it is 25 degrees here now .

personally i think 6s is an all around better set up. Things will run cooler. Your speed all depends on your motor selection.

For bashing and showing off a faster rig would probbly be better as peoples eyes will do this -> O_O
For racing, you really dont get too close to 45 as most tracks are technical...not long straights.

INSANE UNRELIABLE STUPID FAST SPEEDS go for a 1515 1.5D
but Brains 1515/2.5d or 1515/1.5y and jayjays 1515/1y selection would be a good reliable set up.

What speeds are you looking for?

I've used 6s a bit in my truggy with a 1515 2.5d (1650kv) and a 1515 1y (2200kv). I like the 2.5d better for 6s. You can easily gear it for normal bashing speeds (maybe a bit under 40mph) and it has a lot of punch without having to worry about temps. Even when I used it on a 45C (113f) day it didn't get hot. When you want to show off just gear up a little if your batteries can handle it. As long as your not doing hard stop start driving temps should stay fairly low, for me motor temps didn't change when I geared up.
I don't know about in a revo, but in my truggy it's hard to gear the 1y for ~40mph on 6s, because the rpm is so high, so with my normal gearing (46/12) it is geared for ~50mph. But it gets to around 65c (150f) in 10 minutes, while my 2.5d would be under 50c (120f) geared for the same speed with the same type of driving and ambient temp.
1515 2.5d on 6s is my favorite setup that I've tried.

I cant really say a whole lot about 4s vs 6s. but I usually run 5s on my CRT and today I thought I would give 6s a try since I had the batteries. WOW, the amount of power was intense. I didnt change the gearing or anything but my 2.5d always stays cool so it really doesnt matter for me. on 5s it will pull the fronts up about 8" from a dead stop. on 6s it will pull rolling(10 and below) wheelies and hit the wing.

I say go for the 6s setup and gear it conservitively.

hehe my emaxx does a full backflip...landing on all 4's on 4s w/ 1515 1.5d....on 6s...it jus snaps the center drive:lol::lol:

i keep reading how a 1Y (2200kv) on 6s is way too fast.
i've got a 1Y that i've been running on 4s in my emaxx, but just ordered some 6s to try and lower temps.
if i gear 18/68 i can get 40mph (my planned starting point) or 16/68 for 35mph.
i don't see how that's too fast. am i missing something?

The super high RPM's are what cause the motor to heat up in this case, and especially with low gearing like that, you'll cause the motor to over-rev causing even hotter temps. I wouldn't go higher than 5s on the 1515/1y, and 4s on it is ideal in my opinion. On 6s, anything with the KV going from the 1515/3d to the 1515/2.5d would work great.

I have used both 1y and 2.5d with 4S and 6S in my heavy emaxx. The 1Y on 6S was insane, I only ran a few speed passes, it was really quick. Went back to 4S for it. Then I got the 2.5d, not too fast on 4S, 6S it opens up a lot, and is controllable. I now run a 2.5d in my Hyper ST Pro on 6S, everything runs cool (slightly warm).

I have ran my MMMv2 on 4s most of the time 4s works great with the Tekno Neu 1515 1y,1515/1.5d and the 1512/1.5d.Change the gearing and you are good to go.Hopefully the ground will freeze here and I can go drivin today.50 degrees F here now and tomarrow its suposed to be 10 degrees F.I run a Maxamps 4s 6000 battery.
