New to Lipo, need charging help

just got the Turnigy Accucel-8 150W 7A Balancer/Charger to charge my ZIPPY-H 5000mAh 4S1P 20-30C Lipoly Pack and need some help. i am not sure what settings are needed for this.

i am using my power adapter for the Super Brain 997
Input= 120-240VAC
Output= 13.5VDC
10amp
50/60Hz

someone with this charger and/or my battery pack, please help me out here. i havent dealt with Lipo batts or charger/balancers before. any and ALL advice is extremely appreciated. i am waiting on Mike to send me the RCM Battery tray for my Ofna 8. hopefully it will be here by wednesday .

thanks again everyone!!

Your charge settings should be for 4s, or 14.8v, 5000mah or 5 amp charge rate. Plug the balance lead into the charger's port and the main lead into the output, and you should be good to go. I have not used that specific charger, but you should read the instructions thouroughly a few times to familiarize yourself with it.

No prob, good idea to print the manual. Most lipo chargers are very simple, as the charge cycle is simple. Some give you an option to set pack capacity and charge rate seperately, others just ask for pack capacity and figure the charge rate off that (older hyperions for example). No trickle charge rates to set, or cutoff values. Charging lipos is easy, especially with a charger with an internal balancer like you have. Have fun with the lipo, you will never go back to nimh...

first 4 times charge them at 2.5 amp :) then stay with 4 amp don't kill your lipo fast they will make you happy if you take care of them

and don't forget while you charging in palance mode to check that each cell not over 4.2 because some charger don't stop charging. and if you can't read what volt for each cell stop the charger after the pack reach 16.8 (4.2v x 4cell = 16.8v)

and if you want to store your lipo's for weeks or month use storge mode :)

hope that help

charging at 1c doesnt kill the lipo...

well done on an excdellent buy. i have exactly the same charger but the 3s version of the lipos you have. only gripes i have are that the charger doesn't come with a manual, but you can just print it off the net, and the zippyH's balence lead is a bit short.

so charging your lipo, like so:

connect Accucell8 to power supply>press "batt type/stop" button to scroll thru modes, you want 'lipo charge ' or something similar>press + or - bottons to scroll lipo charge modes-charge,balence,storage, etc. you want charge>enter button>adjust charge amps and pack voltage with + and- buttons>enter button for 3 seconds>it will then detect how many cells there are. then it will say somethinf like: R:4ser S:4ser. if you've done it right.>enter>it should start chargeing

at any time during the charge, you can press the + button to see individual cell voltages.

hope that helps.
