Looks good Chris, do you plan to run a 4 channel stick radio with it?

I just picked up a dx5e, a bit low on features, but useable for what I will do. Only paid 65 bucks for it, used once...

I have a POS 4 channel am setup - But given that I'll be standing 3 yards away should be fine...

Driving stick with dual MM is doing my head in a bit - Steering is fine but independent fwd/back etc will take some getting used to... Only issue now is the servo is really not up to the job.

I think I'm going to have to pinch a 5955 from the GTP...

Generally you use a radio that will allow you to mix the 2 throttle channels with the left/right on the left stick. That way forward and back drives both motors togehter, but any angular motion will make the rear motor stop or drive backwards (I will not be able to do this with the dx5e, but I will be using it for a scale truck and a roll back flatbed 6x6). I guess that you could use the left stick for the front, and the right stick for the rear motors, and just manually do dig and other functions (huge burnouts!) with your fingers. Would be weird to use only one stick for steering, but both for forward motion. I guess the left stick could be front motor and steering, and the right stick would be rear motor and rear steering. Sounds like a real mind f@#! to me... I guess you would get used to it, like playing video games on a new controller/system...

I do not have a dual motor/axle crawler, but they do seem cool, and I really like the 4ws on my cr01. I set the M11 up to do either crab/locked/opposite steering for the rear axle with the push of a button. Nice to have it proportional with the front steering and only have to turn the wheel to have both sets of axles work.

Nice build....what a difference! What scale/class would that truck fit in?

I'm using the channel-mixing trick on my Berg. I have it setup already, and by the looks of the LEDs on the ESCs, it is working properly. I have the Futaba 6EXAP, using the "Elevon" mixing feature set to 100%. It's gonna be a pain to drive (at least for a while) because the steering is on the left stick now.

This is in the super class - with about a 17->17.5" wheel base...

Well the radio has nothing fancy on it at all - no mixing etc - I can't even set end points for the servos which is a PITA...

I'm going to try for a while with what I have and if I can cope with stick setup I'll look out for a used DX6 and maybe trade my spare DX3.0...

I'm using right stick for front and left stick for rear - Very tempted to go to three channels with permanent 4WS and just a switched rear dig.

I just bought a couple of 7955's for it ($90 each so a bit of a steal) and a set of Moab XL's so the turning should be a bit better.

The integy 55t's will stay on until they die and then I think I'll get a couple of outrunners for it...

4ws is not allowed in comps in the 2.2 category hence I locked out the FLM-AX10

Wow...what a night and day transformation. Crawlers are something that I never really looked into seriously but your project sure is enough to spark one's interest. It would be nice to get some over the shoulder video once you get proficient (so we can see the crawler move in response to your transmitter).

t-maxxracer32 12.22.2008 09:40 PM

looks like you threw away the red crawler and bought a new one

very nice!

Arct1k 12.22.2008 09:44 PM

In reality I kind of did - I kept the chassis, 17mm adapters, some gears, motors and driveshafts - everything else is new...

Arct1k 12.31.2008 11:29 PM
