Question about motors?
 

Hey guys, im not new to electrics however Im new to my 8T. I sold my 8ight B which was brushless, it had a Feigao 8XL, 4S lipos and a MMM on it.

Now im running the 8T, and NOT using 4S packs anymore, I ditched them all and am runnning 5S packs so I have packs for the LST and the 8T.

Now the 8T IS STUPID on the 8XL being 2084KV its just too fast, and I have the losi kit on it so I have 15T pinion and a 45T Spur. The stock 48T Spur will NOT fit.

Anyways, I am going to Medusa Reseach on monday as they are 20 mins from my house. Im curious what motor to buy.

I was thinking the 36-60 1600KV.

Now if I CAN get a 70 or 80MM can from them im person, would I be better off getting the 70 or 80?

Will the 80 Draw too much current?

I just want to bash and race the 8T, so nothing over 42mph ish is needed. Thats why I want to go with the 1600KV plus, if I ever decide to go to 6S lipos I can.

So what are the major differences with the 60-70-80MM cans?

First, welcome to the forums!

On 5s the Medusa 1600kv is perfect.....the Medusa is a v/good motor. The 70 series will be better than the 60 series due to the weight of the truck.

Would an 80MM be overkill or will the 70MM be OK?

I will basically be running identicle setups in the LST2 and the 8T, as I run MMM's on both and 5S packs on both.

I figured the 70MM for the truggy and the 80MM for the LST2...

Does that sound about right or should I get just 2 70's or 2 80's?

Honestly, IMO, the 70's should be ok.

I'd agree- the 80mm motor is really for big MTs weighing in at about 10lb or more, the 70mm 1600kv should be ideal for what you want to achieve.

Anyways, the 70 should be fine for the 8t, but I would go with the 80 for the lst2. The lst2 should be heavier, and I am sure that you will run heavier wheels/tires on the lst2. Amp draw between the two will not be that much difference, but the heavier truck will work the motor/batts harder so runtime will be less. 1600 kv is good for 5-6s. I run a 1500kv hacker on my lst on 6s and it works great.

70mm should be adequate! But this is rc-MONSTER, is there such a thing as overkill? the 80mm should run cooler but it is a big motor. RC-Monster Mike has raced an E-REVO with a 60mm Medusa. I run a 50mm in my crt.5 and love it. I would have bought a 60mm if they weren't sold out or a 70mm if they where out for my E-REVO. Instead I'm running a Tekno Neu 1515 2.5d on 5s. I tried 6s but that was insane! I would rather have something driveable than a speed/wheelie machine. Something in the neighborhood of 1600-1700kv is good on 5s, 60mm will do the job but will most likely run hot, 70mm would prolly be perfect, 80mm would run cool but you might sacrafice a little run time because of the bigger heavier motor. I run savage XL tires on the LST2.

Went to Medusa this morning. They had a bunch of 70's and 80's in stock they were shipping out, but I couldnt buy one as they were for you guys who preordered them!

Anyways I picked up the 60MM 1600KV and it thrashes my 8T around. Highest temp was 99 Degrees, battery was at 100 at the end of the 22 min run.

This is going to be a sweet setup!

Sounds like you have the setup now, but just a late interjection lol I cannot break the 8Ts diffs or drive train running a now a Neu 1.5d 24k kv ? On 5s, this bad boy can take it. IF you're racing I see you need reasonble controllable speed. I wouldnt worry about breaking it except for lawn darts

I know my LST2's driveline is bulletproof so I assumed this was also, plus what I read. Losi takes time and makes nice driveline parts!

Yeah man, the 80MM cans are HUGE! Im gonna get an 80 for the LST2 when they are available normally so I can just go get one. Plus I dont have the cash right now.
