E-Revo or Revo Conversion???
It is a question that myself and others have asked and one that needs to get answered! A Revo Conversion or just get a E-Revo.
They both have many positives and negatives between them and I want to know which is the better way to go. My problem is that I have an E-Revo and really enjoy it BUT I have always hated the plastic chassis and it always seems to break or give me problems. I don't really like the battery compartments, it limits what you can put in and bows the plastic if your battery is a tight squeeze. So between the Tekno kit and platinum chassis/ Vantage Racing chassis OR Gorillamaxx/ Kershaw Designs which is the better BASHER??? |
It's personal preference. Based on you what you said, any of the chassis you mentioned are good. I have a revo converison myself using the stock 3.3 chassis and I love it.
|
I have launched my E-REVO pretty high and had some rough landings. I have never damaged the chassis! My batteries fit perfectly and I can't ask for much more than 20 minute run times. I vote for the E-REVO!!

+1 for the e-revo:whistle:

I had a converted 3.3 Revo running a 1515/2.5d w/ 6s and I didnt care for the weight distrubution. It was heavy on the battery side, it was ok for doing straight speed runs, but was clumsy in handling. My 10s converted Revo has a set of Emaxx battery holders I have mounted on a 3.3 chassis with a 5s pack in each(the width was good just a little long, so I cut the rear end off) It uses a slipperential instead of a tranny, the COG is lower than a normal converted Revo and closer to a ERevo.
My vote would be for the E Revo |
G3R. Get it, build it, love it, you will not regret it. It's on your list so we know you would like to get one. All you need is for someone to tell you to get it. Well that's all it took when I was thinking about it. The e-revo platform wasn't around then, but it wouldn't of mattered. It's a G3R, that's usually all it takes.

G3R is a better racer than the E-REVO but as far as bashing goes I say the E-REVO. I have soem serious money into my E-REVO, I can't imagine spending $325 for a chassis when you can get an E-REVO chassis for less than $30! The $325 doesn't include very much, you still need to have a roller to take all the suspension, diffs, steering, and transmission off of.

E-revo.

It's a G3R. |
I had a G2R I know what they're about! Bashers break things! How many LHSs have spare parts for a G3R? When I broke a part I had to wait over a week to get it going again instead of driving 10 minutes to my lhs and getting the part. I'm basing my input off the fact that this thread asked what was a better basher and I know that I bash and like to do some crazy stuff and things do eventually break. That $325 chassis isn't going to get me any extra hang time when I launch it 25' into the air off the snowbank in the spring.
|
They break things cuz they use $30 dollar plastic parts.
I understand your reasoning for your choice of chassis. That's all good. True he said basher, and true the G3R is a great platform for a racer. I'm not a racer and well neither is my G3R built up to be. But that besides the point. You may have missed something in his post. If you were basing your input on the fact of what was a better basher. Well you did miss the fact on that one. It's the old start with what seems to be the question but isn't the question. Then hide in the middle of the post why it isn't the question any more and then ultimatly end it with is the real question to see who actually reads your post trick. Believe it or not the trick works really well. He did start out asking e-revo or revo conversion. Then he let us know he didn't like that plastic e-revo chassis. You might of missed that it was in the middle. At the end of the post he asks the question which must of been skipped by a few. It was actually which of the four is a better basher. Quote:
Really though, if you are telling us that you would rather have the plastic $30.00 e-revo chassis vs a G3R chassis or one of the others. Okay, I will believe you. I'd still pick a G3R even if I didn't have one. My G3R is built to bash and does a mighty fine job at it. Even it if does handle like a racer while I am bashing. Something I have to learn how to live with. It's tough trying to balance the benifits of a race platform like the G3R with the benifits of a revo basher. It's one of those headaches that really doesn't hurt but it's always there. It's been over a year now and the only Gorrilla Max part I've had to replace and yes I must admit I had to order and wait on because it was one of the hundreds of parts that I need and the LHS does not carry. Has been the Gorilla Maxx battery straps. What a PIA that was. It's a G3R. No wait.. It's a plastic e-revo. Now that has a ring to it. |
Like Gee said - if money is no object, do the G3R.
Vantage - nothing more than a CF metal Revo chassis - hard to modify if you need to. Kershaw - looks heavy to me, but I have no experience with it, nor have I heard anything either way on them from anyone who actually has/had one. Techno/Metal revo chassis: No reason to go with the platinum - its just different color, other than the hop up items that are attached to it. This is my personal choice, but I use an E-maxx tranny with the G-Maxx single speed conversion. |
Thax guys for all of your input. I like the G3R but there are several weak spots with it as far a bashing goes, and as far as going the vantage racing route there will be heavy mods to get it RIGHT. I really don't like having a plastic chassis, yes it makes the truck light but also vulnerable if your running ALOT:lol: Really what is an issue to my conversion is the tranny! I love the E-Revo tranny better because the ability to control ur shift to first gear and crawl. Has anybody had any experience with Kershaw Designs or any other conversion???
|
3.3 conversion! I put a battery tray on both sides and run 6S2P A123's or 4S Lipos, it's incredibly tough for bashing and handles like a dream. For me the main reason I went with a conversion was cost, I picked up a roller for $75 and put in a 3906 trans with a MMM/Medusa, built some batt trays and was driving! Considerably cheaper than an E-Revo!!
|
If you make a conversion you have almost unlimited battery options vs having an e-revo you have to make sure the batteries fit in the little holes. I vote for the conversion.
