Qustion on Castle/Nue motor sizes and capablities??
So I am ready to drop the hammer on one of these combos...well I have already ordered one with the LHS but I was wondering something. (should be here in 3days)
I thought I read that the 2200 was "larger" motor than the 2650 and could handle more volts (22.2) then the 2650 which is only recommended for 4s lipo. I thought I read this or heard this from castle, but I might have heard wrong. The reason I ask is I ordered the 2200 combo. My thinking is lower kv=cooler running and more gearing/lipo options. There is going to be a time when I want to really push the limits on this motor in the speed dept. Not all the time just to get my speed fix. But I noticed today that on castle website that the motors are listed weighting exacly the same at 121grams. I thought the 2200 was a bigger can and more suited for truggies with extra weight....I have the 8ight buggy and am wondering why the 2650 cannot handle 6s. Then I could run 5s lipo for around the track or even 4s. This is my 1st 1/8 conversion so I just want to make the right decision. Any help or information for this noob would be greatly appreciated. They are NOT the same I have both...
2200 is a 1515 1y 2650 is approx a 1512 1Y Both can take 6s... The 2650 is better suited to 4s in a buggy The 2200 is better suited to a MT/Truggy on 4s up to 6s The 2200 will gear up fine in a buggy just a bit heavier... |
Weird...I guess you can see my confusion when I saw the same weight on their website.
You say they can both take 6s. Man it tempting to get the 2650 just for better balance in the buggy. HMMMM I just got off the phone with medusa and I was thinking of getting a 50 series motor for speed runs and the crt.5. BTW they are quite nice on there support!! With anticipation of running 6s can anyone help me make a decision on which to get with the buggy. The fact that they both are 6s capable does not help me make up my mind...lol. With 6s it at 58,830rpms. Man that has got to scream. You dont have a pic of the motors side by side do you or the ACTUAL weights? Actaully I will look up the neu weights that you mentioned...as I read your message again. |
Lol, a few days ago I weight my brandnew 2200kv motor. It was between 0,4 and 0,5 Kilo.. Sorry, I haven't got a accurate weight mesure thing..
|
well the 1515 1y is .3" longer and almost 1/3 heavier then the 1512 1y. Wow quite the difference. Catsle needs to update there site im thinking.
|
I have "pre release" versions so weighs wouldn't be accurate... Neu motor weights would be a better proxy...
The 2650 is a 4s motor - really they both are but if you are serious about 6s and a CC motor then go for the 2200. For 6s on a buggy though you are going to be looking at lipos around 3300mah or so lipos to keep the weight down. IMO 4s 5k with the 2200 will give you a big smile - that setup rips in my truggy - Hyper ST Pro. |
Well I need to make a decision in the next couple days.
|
I think I may stick with the 2200kv for durability and heat. I will buy a hotter motor from medusa for bashing and stupid speed.
|
Besides Medusa told me today as long I run under spec they warranty for 2 YEARS !!!!!!:surprised:
|
Castle warrantee for life...
|
Umm castle warranties what exactly for life??? I have a demagged MM5700 combo that was only a couple days out of warranty (6 days to be exact) and the tech told me I was s.o.l. unless I pay for the repair. Then he laughed at my predicament and missing the deadline. I mean I saw the humor as well b/c I dont sweat the small stuff but this was my experience.
Which the repair might be valiant on a monster motor but when its like $20 more for a new motor with new warranty whats the point. |
The Monster is 1 year warranty?
|
yea unless im missing something....
|
Well I think it depends on the failure - castle will generally always do you right - emagging a motor takes a lot of heat which is generally always setup related - understandably they can't help if it is bad setup
I've had bearings go on a 2 year old motor and castle fixed for free... |
