Lipo for brushed rock crawler?

My brother is going to buy my rock crawler and he really wants to get a lipo pack for it for the insane runtimes. He already has a Duratrax Ice w/ temp sensor.

The truck has a SuperRooster and two Integy 55T lathe motors geared at 9/72 with a top speed of about 6mph.

What would be the best 7.4V lipo pack under $100 for this application, and where can he buy it?

Thanks in advance!

Brian

www.maxamps.com has some good prices. The less expensive packs are under the 2100 cells/packs menu. They have a 6300 mah 7.4v pack for $112, or a 4200 mah 7.4 volt pack for $77.

While you're at Maxamps, check their Lipo Car packs. 4000mah or 8000mAh.

Right on.

-4000 mAh for $84.99 - 48A constant 64A burst.

Is there anything else he'd need to get with it, like a balancer or low voltage detector? We don't know much at all about Lipo yet.

Is the Duratrax Ice pretty much plug and play with Lipo, or will he need a special type of connector or something special?

Thanks!

You should have him look at the pack E-Traxxer mentioned. It is cheaper, and can sustain a higher amp draw (not that it would be needed!), and has a higher capacity. The form of this pack wouldn't be too good, but for the price/power/capacity I would get it over the 4000mah one any day.

The ICE is a good charger for Lipo, and does not require a special connector, only the same one that is on the battery.
A balancer would help, as Lipo packs are often destroyed because they go out of balancer. Maxamps can make any pack with any taps that they have. He will also need a LVC device to keep the pack from dropping below 3v/cell.

If the dimensions weren't an issue, I would also go with their 2100 cells. But the biggest I could use from this series would be the 2S2p pack.
The Car packs just have convenient dimensions.
