What's a good waterproof system?
 

I'll be building a Kyosho Blizzard next month and want a waterproof brushless system or at least a esc. Anyone know of any new or used?

Take a look into MTronik ESC's.

The older line up of Mtroniks was indeed water proof and sealed (the escs), but the ratings aint that great though- the truck system (9L motor with the truckpro esc) could do 4s lipo but was limited to 80amps I believe; they have new stuff coming out in the near future.

The MM is pretty waterproof if you tape up the usb port, and I've seen plenty of photos of trucks with the esc out in the snow, stuffed full of the white stuff with no ill effects.

just ran my mm in the snow, mm performed flawlessly.

Mine just roasted from snow/water in my E-Maxx. I even sealed the ring of the case and taped the port. Last year it worked fine so I'm clueless on that one. CC gets $50 from me for a new one I guess. I just got a replacement from JayJay to get me goin right away. From now on I'll shower cap the Maxx. My Blizzard I'd like to be truely waterproof all around. Might just go with brushed stuff from TRX. Sorry for swear'in.

Swear indeed! I'd go with an MM smothered in dielectric grease. A thin layer won't warm up an esc much and will absolutely waterproof it. Messy as hell, but gets the job done.

Is there some kind of spray we can use to seal things up without heating up? How about a Slick50 or Duralube(no reference to the Astroglide comment, really) spray?

I used CRC SP-400, its realy wax, coated my ex. Novak with it and it survived dump in water, but i used it directly to circuitboard.
And after few coates, it looked like this and this.

You could get a hydra. Sopmething like the hydra 240hv should be enough.:lol:

Actually I'll probibly be using a mamba. How about a new 9000kv motor they just put out. A blizzard that fast would need it's own series and theme song.

I like the sidewinder design for waterproofing. Pack the case with dielectric grease (completly so no air is trapped) then use liquid electrical tape to seal it up around the case and wires. Should be good to go then. With the motor you would need to grease the front bearing and run an oring between the pinion and inner bearing race. Use some good tape over the rear bearing and silicone the wires where they exit the can. You could also use hot glue, as it seems to stick better to smooth surfaces than silicone. P ack the reciever with dielectric grease and use the same grease on all plugs, including the main battery plug. Plasi-dip the battery and silicone the wires where they exit. Plasti dip the steering servo and use a greased o-ring between the horn on the top of the case.

I just went thru this with a brushed setup. I use the erevo rec box for the receiver and it works great. I'm running brushed and drilled a drain hole in the can at the very back and bottom so the muddy water can run out.

It has reverse... Instead of getting the mamba 9000 that will always run hot you could get a medusa for pretty close to the same price. It will be faster with the medusa.

The hydra does not have proportianal brakes. And I am not sure if those escs are fully waterproof, just water cooled...
