Truggy Tires

I am planning racing this year and was wondering what tires I should buy for my 8T. Our track is hard and gets loose as the races progress... With all of the power of a brushless setup, do I want a softer tire so I can get more bite? Are panthers better or should I just stick with a set of pro line LPR? anyone use badlands for racing?

The panther switch is the hot ticket at my local track, and I think they make them in an LPR size now.

a LPR tire will be more reponsive than a Badland

I used Badlands at the bash last year. It's all that I had but they actually worked well for the conditions......Muddy as all hell!!! The track had tons of grip even when wet, as long as you kept up wheel speed to keep the tread clean, slower technical parts and turns where the bad parts. Through all the muck the badlands worked well cause they didn't load up with mud.

Will an LPR help from ballooning? becuase they are taller and narrower? or would a wider tire be better to help get all the grip with the torque of brushless?

LPR helps with ballooning and light - I like crimefighters...

I run Bow Ties at our track Lucias, but some of the other guys run Crimefighters too. The BT's work really well IMO. LPRs of course.

stay away from proline unless u really like tire balancing their foams are crappy.
crimefighters are great tires but proline foams are really bad

AKA is the way to go or LOSI/GRP tires

Sower 01.21.2009 04:14 PM

Hmm, never heard that. What about Panthers?

Would beadlock wheels be a dumb idea? because of the added weight? I was thinking I could pick up a couple of different set of tires and try them all out.. and not have to buy wheels and glue! I hate glue even though beadlocks are a pain in the ass as well...

Sower 01.21.2009 05:19 PM

I think the beadlocks are pretty heavy. The weight of the wheels is one of the most taxing on a brushless system. Much more than dead weight on the chassis. And I don't know that beadlocks come in LPR either.

If you hate glue - buy pre mounts.

good point I didn't think about the size issue.. maybe I can find some decent used sets..

wallot 01.21.2009 06:11 PM

AKA is a new brand closely tied to kyosho. the best tires u can get right now. panthers are ok as well.

well chosen tires are part of the racing success. it's not just tread but also compound. however usually u can get away with some more universal treads like Proline Crime Fighter, AKA City Block and similar

I am glad someone asked what they were, because I was just going to act like I did...
