New 1/5 Motor, BigBlock "pics inside"

Picked up a Kollmorgen 400 brushless motor for my 1/5 yesterday. Its absolutely monsterous compared to the CIM robotics brushed motor and hopefully will displace even more raw power. Its so wide that I will have to make a custom plate that will have to hang off the chassis to be able to mount the other side of the motor.

Here are a few pics. "Internal pics will be posted up asap"

Holy Moses, that is big...looks like w/wings it could fly w/that power plant!

Balance issues? Or are you gonna have some type of wheeled outrigger?

Takedown 01.27.2009 06:24 PM

Ill just deal with the balance issues.

What are you looking to get for top speed....just curious.. Also out of curiosity, what are the specs. of the motor.

Takedown 01.27.2009 06:29 PM

The motor is 115mm wide and 79mm long. The kv rating is around 130kv.

Takedown 01.27.2009 06:29 PM

Top speed Im hoping to get around 30ish miles per hour. Im looking for torque mainly.

magman 01.27.2009 06:31 PM

That should be enough torque to put the truck on it's lid w/out much trouble....:mdr:

BrianG 01.27.2009 06:31 PM

Extend the shaft out the back and make it direct drive somehow.

Jabe 01.27.2009 06:32 PM

What esc are you gonna use, 18 poles thats something every esc cant do...
And yeah, some specs for motor?
e. i was too slow

pedeboi364 01.27.2009 06:39 PM

wow, what kind of wires are you gonna use, like 4 gauge?!?!?! put that thing in a pede...

FG101C 01.27.2009 06:51 PM

I have some 000 guage power wire if you want it.

lutach 01.27.2009 06:57 PM

That is a much easier motor to rewind. Try and do what Brian said and make it direct drive. There are also tons of good BL motors out there that are a bit smaller. I have a few here and all I need to do is rewind them to handle the current and rasi the Kv a little.

:gasp: :surprised: :gasp: :surprised: :gasp: :surprised: :gasp: :surprised:

All I have to say is wow, that thing is huge! I agree with the other guys though, direct drive with something that size would probably be perfect, and would make it alot more balanced. Looks great! And I want a video of that thing powering the truck around ASAP!!!
