Need help on brushless motor choice?
 

Heres the deal i know it was way to much voltage but i used 2 3s 2200mah 11.1v lipos on my mamba max and 8xl. It worked for about 5 min tried reverse and a puff of smoke fun over. Now my esc leds jus flash like krazy dont know if it was the motor or esc that smoked? but it halled ass my ? is i ordered a set of 3s 20c 5000max flightmax lipos and a monster mamba v3 should i try the 8xl if it ain't fried or get a diff motor? And what ones will work and last a while oh yeah its on my e revo.

Worth a shot with the 8xl.. not going to last long on 6s. Your best bet is to get the 2200kv combo.


The reason your esc smoked is becaus they are rated for 25v a freshly charged 6s pack is 25.2v. When you went into brake/reverse it regenerated voltage and blew the esc up

Ditch the 8xl...for a few $ more go w/the Medusa.I would recommend for a 6s application the 70 series Medusa 1600 kv, 2000kv motor....Or the mmm 2200kv combo package

so if u use my 11.1 lipos on the mmm it should be fine since there 25.2v? also what motor should i get around 1600 to 2200 kv castle neu or medusa?

2 11.1 li-po's should be fine....motor choice depends on your budget. I have a 50 series Medusa on my daughter's crt.5 and it is also terrific. Medusa is a great motor choice.
The castle combo is a great deal...in your case I'd go w/the 2200kv castle set up on 6s.

MMM V3 2200kv combo on 6 cells is the way to go.

Voltage is not the issue. It smoked because his LiPos were under-rated for the motor. 2200mAh (assuming a 30C rating) is only 66A continuous. The 8XL is gonna eat them for breakfast, and ask for seconds! CC has said repeatedly that under-rated batteries cause EM spikes in the ESC and will fry its brains. If the motor blew there would have been more than a "puff" of smoke....

Oh, and the new batteries will run that motor much better. But then it will be toast. :lol:

can u use 6 cell nimh with brushless?

Sure, just do not expect to get the full potential out of the system. Something like a sidewinder 4600 combo on 6 cell nimh in a pede/rustler with gearing for around 30mph would be fine.

Sure, voltage is voltage. It might wake up the brushed tho from the loss of weight and efficiency of batteries.

You might notice and increase in performance. Just make you that you're running the right voltage.

yep i think the max voltage on a stock e-revo is 16.8v so about 4s lipos
