thicker motor shaft = more torque?
 

Hey everybody, got a question for ya that I havn't seen brought up before.

I'm getting a medusa 50mm 4800kv motor for my rusty, and I was wondering if I got the 5mm shaft over the 3.7mm one would it have more torque? (acting the way a fatter screwdriver does)

Neither should twist in that application. I would stick with the 1/8 shaft, unless you plan to make your rusty very heavy with al crap. Sticking with the 1/8 shaft will allow you to continue using the 48p pinions and spurs... 10th scale is fine with 1/8 shafts...

I think the 1/8 shaft motor is identical to the 5mm shaft motor, only the end of the shaft is turned down to fit small gears.

I have a Rusty with a Feigao 9L (which has a 5mm shaft) and I run a Revo 40 tooth spur and a mod 1 pinion. I feel you are less likely to strip the Mod 1 gear setup. I had to remove the gear cover to fit the revo spur

I figured what you were asking is will it "have" more torque. No , it won't.

hmmm heres my thought on that...

Because the rotor radius is the same...its still rotating from that distance and that torque transfered to the rest of the shaft...


if anything...you would have MORE rotating mass which will slow your acceleration. Like linc said...unless your rusty is gonna be a lot heavier...stick to the 1/8
