E-Raze Buggy Conversion

3 Attachment(s)
Here are some pics of my first conversion:

It's your basic MMM/ Medusa 60-2000kv, with a RC-M mount on a Raze Buggy. So far the only problems are a cut short antenna and a dogbone tossed a drive pin out as soon as I hit the throtle on 6S

Looks okay- just be careful of the screws in the tray poking into your lipos.

This is just the initial stages of this buggy. The battery tray is pop rivited (no sharp surfaces) togeather around the sides and bottom. I want to coat the whole tray with something like this :

http://www.caswellplating.com/aids/plastidip.html

It was mentioned in another thread, I think I'm going to try it out and see how it works.

I also need to make real ESC and rx mounts. The zip ties are only temporrary I needed to give this thing a rip to see how it ran.

His motor mount looks like a rc-monster mount. Very appropriate, since we are on this site. Welcome to rcm.

Probably a hyper 7 mount, as they are just about identical

Ppb0089 02.20.2009 10:34 PM

hyper 7 mount then. thanks i have not seen a "raze" mount yet and have a raze that might make a nice brushless conversion. since i don't run it in its current form.

I bought the mount from Mike and on the package it said it was for a Duratrax Raze and that is what I ordered. I don't think it's on his site, but he told me to put what mount I wanted into the message part of the order page.

Something else you can use is craft foam. You can get it pretty much anywhere where crafts are sold (Wal-Mart, Michaels hobby, etc), is cheap (~$1 for a 8.5"X11" sheet), and has a sticky back that sticks well, but comes off easily if you need to replace it.

I use sheets that are 1/16" thick. Cut to shape, peel off backing, and stick where you want it.

Thanks for that heads up. I wasn't looking forward to using the plastidip, I'll deffinatly check out the craft foam. It sounds like the perfect addition to my cheap homemade battery tray.

Thanks again for the tutorial on how to setup the hobby wing 80a esc. Did you change the motor connectors on the one that you have? I think I'm going to put the 6.5mm bullets on mine just so I have the same ends on all my esc's and motors.

BTW: what type of soldering iron do you use for the 10ga wire and the 6.5mm bullets? I have nothing but trouble when soldering those on. Thanks

Minimum of 50watt iron for doing larger wires/ plugs- closer to 60-80 watt would be ideal so you dont have to hold the iron in place, which just ends up heating the whole wire (through convection), rather than heating the spot you are soldering to in an instant to melt the solder. Hence, I dont like deans- bullet plugs ftw!

No a 40 watt is really all you need for anything in these cars. If you use good high tech solder you will never have a problem. My 40watt weller's tip glows cherry red when I solder with it. it's really hot
