WTF!? Greg Degani's Comments on Electric 1/8th scale Racing....
Alright, i knw this guy had been around racing FOREVER but as I was reading the lastest issue of Radio Control Car Action I came across this article interviewing Greg Degani and when asked "How will RC change in the next few years?"...His response was "I don't think electric 1/8th scale racing will ever take off; it is the dumbest thing I've seen. Electric is in the past, nitro is the future. They may be quicker but they don't have any noise or smell."
What a close-minded A$$-hole....sad to see a pro driver have this POV on electric 1/8th scale....and to say that nitro is the future because of their "noise and smell"...come on!!! some one needs to :slap: this guy....i'm kinda fired-up about this one............................................... .................................. .................................................. .................................................. . ok....i'm calm now  |
Nitro racing will always be popular, until the old farts that race it now kick off... All of the guys I know that race think electric is unfair cause you do not have to keep it running...

With more 1/8 brushless rtr's come out people will try to race them and it'll catch on. |
Noise and smell is the main reason that I don't run nitro. That and the freaking nasty sticky mess it makes of your rig.
People make stupid quotes all the time. Greg has now entered into that infamous company which include: Quote:

lol he is a dieing breed, he is going to have to adapt to brushless or get left behind
|
Lol! I actually laughed out loud at that. You'd think an experienced pro like him might know better, but come on. The stupid thing is that even though he says "Electric is the past, nitro is the future", electric doesn't even have a "past" in 1/8th racing; it's always been nitro.
What a muppet. |
lol...

I feel sorry for this poor guy although this guy seems to have his own agenda.
Our track has been getting around 1 new 1/8th scale electric buggy racer every month and I know there are a few nitro guys that have talked about converting. There's nothing like racing 1/8th scale without all those fumes. As for the noise and smell, I can't even put into words how nice it is to race without all that crap. |
the guy likes nitro because NITRO payes his bills!!!...i dont agree but it is simple economics 101:rules:
|
I remember reading him saying that in the last RCCA mag. I couldn't believe he said such a thing....just wait 'til he looses to an electric...I wonder what he will say then?

The people that love nitro can have it. There's a guy here at work who's all WOOOHOOO about nitro. I told him "dude, I have a RC10GT with a Picco .26 in it and I don't drive it because it's SLOW in comparison to my electric rigs." That resulted in a :oh: from him. Ahaha. With all the advances in battery tech, ESCs and motors I can't see anything but more and more electric 1/8ths coming on. When I did my Hyper 7 conversion on BYT, I was the only one. Now, I can't even count how many there are, and I've never heard anyone who did a BL buggy conversion say "oh man, my BL buggy SUCKS, I'm going back to nitro!" Nope, and in fact, just about everyone who builds one has another project one going soon after they finish the first one. Greg can stick to his Nitro, but he'll be racing from the rear of the pack. |

so he already admits to them being quicker, in racing quicker is what rules the track, and what rules the track people will race. being the dumbest thing hes seen? more power, longer runs, cleaner, quieter, more consistant yeah thats ALL BAD! i know of a track locally where he races sometimes i would love to check out some 6s power. ive only met one person who did not like my car while at the track racing,a nitro guy. after he saw me run my buggy he didnt have much to say. nitro guys like it cause its nitro, so you MUST screw with your car ALL the time to keep it running. loud, dirty, messy, inconsistant all the things electric brushless is not. i love mantaining my brushless 1/8 scale, service plan is as follows 99% of the time: remove charge and replace 6s lipo. so let all the nitro guys have their "fun" they are only nitro guys untill they drive a neu on 6s lol! |
