Savage Flux Gearing
Can anyone verify the gearing for me? It looks like this is what it has:
Diffs: 3.307 (43:13) Tranny: 2.697 (44:18, 32:29) Pinion/Spur: 20:44 Total Gear Ratio out of the box: 19.628:1 I have the tires at 6.3". Putting all that into the calculator gives me a speed on 4S of 31.09mph. That sounds a bit low, are my values correct? |
Sounds low to me too. Probably closer to 15:1 I would bet. I may pick one up here soon, just trying to unload my emaxx first.

It does sound low, but I verified the part numbers and tooth counts in two places:

On that calculator, assuming you are right, when you go to 6s power and 25t pinion it should be 62mph (claimed top speed) which it isn't (it's 58) so I would suggest something is out.
My Revo BL on 4s is calculated as 33mph right now and it's not even close in speed to a Flux on 4s |

Looks like I will be locking my flm savvy in 2nd in order to use the 1521 2y... 2.697 for the tranny is too low for my uses. |

Diffs @ 3.307 (43:13) Trannny @ top drive gear to first idle gear 2.444 (44:18) Trannny @ second idle gear to output gear 0.906 (29:32) Spur-Pinion @ 2.200 (44: 20) For a total ratio of 16.109 With 14.8v, 2200kv and 6.3" tire the math for that combo is ~37.9mph Where our math differs is the second gearing stage of the tranny. I see the 32T gear on the idle shaft driving the 29T gear on the output shaft. Which means it would only take the 32T gear 0.906 of a revolution to turn the 29T output gear one full revoultion. |

Lol got to keep the front tyres down first to get to that speed!
|
In the xtreme rc magazine savage flux speed 41.68mph on 4s.
|
I just picked up a Flux and was wondering this exact thing. I cant decide id I wanna go for 6s or 4s.
|
Compromise and go with 5s! Just run two 5s smaller packs in parallel. ALthough I usually don't recommend this because both pack should be exactly the same voltage prior to hooking together...
BTW, nice avatar. It reminds me that I have the first 14 (IIRC) comics from back in the day. Might see what they're worth on eBay... |
Yeah I really do want to run a 5s, but I cant afford two 5s packs right now. I am thinking 4s... but Im not sure if it will solve my power craving :)
|
Trust me, it's hard enough keeping it on it's wheels with a 4s set up!!!
|
4S is actually driveable on a track. Unless you just want high speed passes and straight line running, I wouldn't recommend running anything greater than 4S. Besides, if you want just a little more speed, just change a tooth or two on the pinion.
