8ight-T Spur and Pinion Help
Hey guys, I am slowing doing up a 8ight-T when the parts arrive from overseas and I have a couple of questions. After reading the Zippy thread I thought I better get some opinions on this Losi setup I am starting.
#1 When I use the speed calculator I am getting a speed of 52MPH using the supplied 45t spur and 15t pinion (Losi Conversion) running 5s and the 2200kv CC-Neu (I punch in the 1515/1y). Have I input the right figures if I use Front/Rear Diff ration of 4.3, the Trans of 1, spur 45, pinion 15, 18.5 volts, 2200kv for motor and input tires of LPR Bowties 5.6???? If I have, I think the Losi kit is set for their 1700kv motor because that comes in at 40MPH using the given formula. #2 If I have inputted the correct data and I am looking at those sort of speeds with the Losi Conversion, for those that have this setup especially with the CC MMM Combo, what sort of temps are you experiencing with all individual parts, ie: motor, ESC, Lipos? Is it advisable to maybe gear down and try and find a plastic spur that will fit, maybe something in the lines of 48T or 49T? Try a 13T pinion or there abouts? To be fair, the more info I can get with places to purchase from regarding spurs and pinions that may fit, the better for me. It can take me two weeks for something to arrive and I would rather do an order for more parts than needed and have heaps of spares so I can test different combinations all in one day, not one day every two weeks :mdr: #3 Who loves their Losi 8ight Brushless  I DO :yipi: I know there is three questions, but the third one is the one I wanted really answered   Thanks in advance. |
Do you already have the 5s batt? If not just go with that setup and 4s and you should be a slight bit lighter and slower. Your setup seems like just what I want and I think it should be about 40, maybe a slight bit over.

I have to say, it's one of the best bodies I have seen painted in a while. I sort of don't like the real flame look and to be fair never really liked green on truck, but this body just screams cool :mdr: |
I received my CC Bullets today and soldered them into place, a bit of heat shrink later and I was ready to rock and roll. I must admit I was kind of nervous giving it a blast after seeing vids on You Tube and the likes. Well, plugged in, tested gear and walked out onto the road (we live in a small cul-de-sac)..............gave it a little finger and feathered the throttle to see how she would go, :gasp: "oh boy" I dribbled in my pants with excitement.
This thing is unreal, I cannot believe I came back to RC's a few years ago and went into Nitro. My old truck has nothing on this beast and it is an absolute BEAST :diablo: It is alot faster than what I remember electrics to be, running my Tamiya Subaru Brat around with a Technigold in it :mdr: Here's a couple of pics of how she was sitting as I finished having fun  http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/f...3/CIMG4530.jpg http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/f...3/CIMG4527.jpg http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/f...3/CIMG4522.jpg A big thank you goes to alot of guys on this forum (George16 who showed me the way) for posting about your trucks and what you have done..........it has really helped this brushless noob feel confident in what I have done :great: I am not going back to nitro :whip: now, that's for sure :mdr: |
You're welcome Josh. I told you once you make the switch, there's no turning back :party::intello::intello:.
Just make sure your next post will a video of your truck running. |
I had the same lipo, but used it in a Losi Muggy with a Neu 1515 1.5D and an MGM 16018. The wheels/tires on the Muggy weigh about a pound a piece and as a whole it's just a very heavy truggy and the 1.5D motor (very similar to what you have, but 2700KV) is an amp hog. I ran mine with a 13T pinion and 46T spur the Zippy did very well, but learn from my mistakes and MAKE SURE your lipo has plenty of clearance from the spur gear. Mine came loose during a run and the spur chewed up the top cell so I disposed of the pack. I wouldn't let the thread going on in the CC forum bother you, Zippies are just fine as long as you aren't pushing them too hard (easiest way to tell is the temperature at the end of the run). If they are 110-120 at the end of the run you're OK, but any hotter than that and you'll want to put a smaller pinion on there to reduce the load on the motor.
