MMM dead and its all my fault!!!
well im pretty sure my MMM has kicked the bucket and the blame is intirely on me. I got out the RCM 5s lipos for their 4th run and accidentally used my series connector that i use on my 2s packs for 4s. I didnt notice it at all and proceeded to drive the truck around on 10s or a minute or so, and it ran fine until it just died....I tried to get it going (i thought it might have been a loose deans or something) and then i saw the huge mistake i made when hooking up the packs.....
This sucks, Its totally my fault so i dont expect any warranty from castle, but i want to be able to drive my truck and didnt plan on spending $160 dollars on a speed control any time soon. So does anyone know if theres any chance with castle to get a discount or something....i take all fault on this one but it would be awsome if they had some trade in program like traxxas does.... |
anyone know if castles Flat fee will take care of this and repair my esc for $70. if this is true it will save me some $ at least.
|
Is there any chance you could remove the bottom of the case and take a picture for me? I'm thinking it's probably blown the TVS chip which led to other problems. Probably took out the BEC circuit as well.
To answer your question, yes. http://www.castlecreations.com/support.html It looks like flat rate repairs is $70. They can fix you up. Sorry about your luck with this one. |
yeah I can do that, give me a bit.
|
so if you said that you run it on 10s lipo for about 1 min....it seem that 7s or 8s coulb it be ok if we desactivate the esc bec......
like you said its suck,,,me two i blow up a mmm by reversing the neg, positive born..... total cost..100$can im curious the see inside you unit |
Castle's flat fee repair will cover this! They have said it doesn't matter how or why it died as long as they can identify what it once was! You can send in a charred piece of plastic and as long as they can tell what it was they will take care of you. $70 is still costly but 1/2 price of a new one.
|
Yeah, 70 bucks is better than 140! and it ran well for the 1 min that it was running, luckily i didnt give it any more that 1/4 throttle and probably maxxed out at 30 mph, so my motor should be fine, at least everything else is fine.
|
to be honest im surprised that the controller let me drive it with over 37V going to it....i would think that it would give an over voltage warning and prevent it from running.
|
I'm surprised the power on 10s wasn't so huge that it threw a red flag! But yeah, the flat rate fee will cover it. Not cheap, but pretty darn good compared to a new ESC.
As to using anything higher than 6s; I wouldn't do it, even with the BEC disabled: 1) the BEC is never "disabled", removing the red wire simply keeps it from powering external components, but it still powers the brains. 2) The FETs and caps (and I'm sure a bunch of other components) are not rated for much beyond 6s. IIRC, the FETs are rated for 30v, and the caps are 35v. And you always want to leave a little voltage headroom. |
^^i just thought that packs were getting broken in, lol. but really i only got on the throttle once and is was maybe 1/4 throttle, which promptly but the truck on its lid when it was already moving 25-30mph, so probably more power, i just didnt get close to flooring it to see.

i was thinking it was higher than that...like the 120amps continusly... |

dude thats a v2! just send it in for a v3 upgrade , and yes 70$ is the charge even if you decided to run it over with your 1/1 car.
this is a v3 ( notice the blue board ) http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...n/102_1748.jpg |
I know it was a V2 but i got the v3 case and most recent software, from what ive heard its pretty much a v3
|
If thats a V2 arent they covered anyway under the warranty? I say just send it in and see what they say. Worst they can do is say you are not covered and you pay them 70 dollars.
