Which shocks? Help me decide...

Hey all,

I've been looking at fitting new, better shocks to Cold Fusion. One of my old GPM units finally died on me the other day, and a truck with 3 shocks is no use to anyone! Anyways I've been hunting around on eBay etc for good deals. I have a limited budget. I was looking at fitting Proline Powerstroke coil-overs...but that means buying the whole set of 8, which I really don't want to shell out for (I know you can get them seperately, but that works out more expensive for some weird reason). I'd prefer big-bore buggy style shocks but can't really find any that are affordable here in the UK.

So...I've come down to two choices. First off, Tamiya TGM-02 Aluminium Dampers. I've heard that they are very well-built, smooth shocks, but they seem to be the same "narrow" bore as my GPM shocks. However I can get them for $46 for four, from here: Click me (there's a 20% off thing going on).

The other option was a set of Integy MSR4 V2 shocks. I've heard mixed reviews on them (such as bent shock shafts). Are they any good? Also, will they accept standard diameter Maxx springs? They can be got for $44 for 4, from here: Click me again

If you could help me out or have any other ideas, then I'd appreciate it. Thanks.:)

How about those:

They are the favourite shocks of many users here. Not a bad price too.
They are nice and fat, actually ofna 8th scale buggy shocks with custom shafts.

Thanks for the reply Dafni. I thought about those a while back...though they're a little more than I wanted to pay. How long are they, from the centre of each mounting hole? It's just that I'd need to fab up some custom shock towers to run longer shocks like these.

I don't know about the lenght of them, but you can always put some fuel tubing on the shaft on the inside of the shock to reduce travel.
I think they are worth the money, buggy shocks are expensive, but good quality.

Or maybe you can get some traxxas maxx shocks, stock or bigbore.

I use the Integy MSR4 PB Shocks, they are really good and look awsome too but the springs are way too soft. About $12 for some stiffer ones makes a great setup.

Thanks for your help. I think I'll go for the SuperShocks. No-one has ever fitted such big shocks on a Dagger before, so it might be tricky...but with some custom towers it should work. I'll let y'all know how I get on. :D

What about the front shocks for abuggy. They are a little shorter than the back ones and ue. I have ue on my trucks and love them. I can get a measurement if you like. front buggy shocks on my mbx are 102mm The back ones are 125mm That is from center to center.

Now that's a good (and sensible) idea Coolhand...I thought about that too, but now I kinda like the idea of putting the bigger UE shocks on...and also the UE shocks seem to represent great value. If you could get a measurement on them, that'd be great! Thanks. :D

The ue are 115 mm. So they fall inbetween the back and front shocks. I love the shocks myself

Well, SuperShocks it is then. Thanks Coolhand. :)
