Just got an 8ight!
I just picked up a used 8ight off rcu for $120 shipped.:yipi: I plan to use my mamba max and a flightpower flightmax 5000mah 4s lipo. I'm undecided on a motor yet, and I don't have enough money for one at the moment anyway. This will be a longer project.
Here is a pic the guy sent me. I'll take before/after pictures of when I get it and clean it. [pics didn't work] I will fix it up for sure. I'll get new tires and hopefully the body isn't crap. Once I'm done with it, it will look almost brand new. |
Sounds good, but you linked photo's from your GMail account and all we get is red crosses.

I figured something like that would happen to the pictures... I'll just wait till I get it to post pics.
I will start trying to find a used Neu, CCNeu, or Medusa. What kv should I go for with 4s? What length is best? |
I'm very happy with a Medusa 60x2000 on 4S in my 8B. It's not crazy fast, but is still as fast as any top nitro and has a lot more punch to clear jumps out of corners. If you want a little more speed go with the 60x2200, but the amps jump up a lot from the 2000 to 2200 which will require better batts or cause your batts to get hot.

What will this be used for? Bashing or racing? I have found the CC Neu 2650 makes a perfect all around bashing motor on 4s. On 5s, it can do speed runs all day long in a wide open space. For racing you probably want what has already been mentioned - something around 2000 kv. The Neu 1512 2.5D is also a good choice.

I got it today. There are quite a few missing parts but for 120 bucks it aint bad. I'll see if they guy can find the missing bits and peices...

I have a MM I might use with a medusa motor on 4s.... All I would need then is a motor. Or else I might go with the bandwagon and save up for a MMM. edit - I started the tear down/cleaning. I'll put 45wt oil in the shocks. I'll post pics when I get done cleaning it. It will look just like new! |
that thing looks great for 120 imo. i just finished my e revo build and now i am looking to get an 8ight. i will be watching this thread. good find.

I got a job interview scheduled for tomorrow!!! If anyone noticed I've been away from my computer quite a bit because the Girls basketball state tourney is this weekend. They barely won on thursday, barely won yesterday, and now they're playing for the championchip today! Should be a good game. I'm very excited.
Today, I got the 8ight cleaned. I'm done except for the shocks. http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p...1/S7301710.jpg This hinge pin was bent. I was able to bend it back, but I can see it being a problem in the future. http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p...1/S7301711.jpg http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p...1/S7301712.jpg http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p...1/S7301714.jpg http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p...1/S7301715.jpg http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p...1/S7301716.jpg http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p...1/S7301718.jpg http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p...1/S7301719.jpg http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p...1/S7301720.jpg |
Congrats! Sounds like the previous owner did not have much R/C experience/knowledge.
|
He said he did a brushless conversion. A lot of the parts have been modified for that, but not in the best way.
I am happy with it though. For 120, it was a hell of the deal. The rear diff had no signs of wear and the bottom of the chassis looks really nice. The tires are odd though, don't know why they aren't matched up. If I ever want to sell it I know I could probably get 150 out of it now that it's all cleaned up. |

Those outer rear hinge pins bend easy. Get the ones for the 8ight 2.0. They are thicker, but it is really easy to drill out the hold in the arms and hub.
|
good job with the cleanup what did you use?

I'll use the 2.0 rear hinge pins next time I need to pick some up. Thanks for the info. I got the shocks finished and filled with 45wt oil. It's a little thick but it should work good for onroad bashing. |
