Pinion
I need a 28t 5mm shaft Mod 1 pinion. Does antone know where I might be able to pick one up?
|
|
Fail- he said MOD 1.0
http://204.186.93.64/PinionsMod1.htm Thats the MOD1.0 pinions, but they arre plastic if you go larger than 25teeth- cant you use a smaller spur gear on whatever vehicle this is?.. |
I have a very heavy E-maxx. I will post a picture of it tonight. I'm wanting to run a 1521 1.5y/F with a 28t pinion/51t spur on 6S. What do you think? Or would I be better off with a 1521 1y and use a smaller pinion? The reason I want to use the 1521 1.5Y is because I might be getting a sweet deal on this motor.

Up the voltage!:great:
|
Thats a 1050kv motor, you'd need to run that on more like 8-10s lipo or more, 6s isnt even close to enough voltage.
1521 1y is a much better choice for 6s (1577kv), so long as you're aiming for no more than about ~40mph, otherwise I'd say 1515 2.5d (1650kv) perhaps. How heavy are we talking?.. |
I'll post pics of the beast in a few.

The beast weights in at 17lbs. Here are some pics.

I've been adding stuff to this truck for 4 years now. Curent motor is a feigao 7XL and a BK 9920 Esc. (Now you see why I need the fans.) The rest of my fleet runs Neus and Mamba Monsters. |
Nice looking truck. I will have to say that the tranny will not hold up to a 1521 for long...
As for the mod1 gearing larger than 25t. You can buy a colleted pinion adapter from tdr racing, and use losi 2nd gear pinions from the lst2. Mike also sells pinions that will fit ,for his 2 speed adapter, but that adapter can only really be run forwards as it has no method to lock the gears on. The tdr adpter does lock them on, so you can use brakes and reverse. Gears up to 30t are available, and Mikes are hardened. Some of the losi gears are al, which is fine to use on a plastic spur, although I still prefer steel. |
What do you recommend for a tranny? I'm running the gorillamaxx single speed the mike's idler gear. What would you do if this was your truck?

17lbs is a big truck. A 1521 will move it quite well though. For 6s you will need some good lipos, maybe a pair of 6s 3700 25c enerland packs, or some 4000-5000 zippy 6s packs if you want to save some money. Still 200+ dollars in lipo... I suggest 2 of them wired in parallel to provode plenty of reserve for that motor. 1521 motors are rated at 1750watts cont, which is over 2.5hp. That is getting close to a 100amp load, and that is not peak either. I would want a min of 160amps cont on the battery spec... I have a 1521 2y that i plan to run on 10s lipo in a stretched flm savage. I doubt that my truck will be as heavy as yours though... Make sure that you get a smooth can, as the finned can may be too large in diameter to get the correct gear mesh without contacting the tranny case. And make sure it has a 5mm shaft, as the 8mm shaft models are difficult to get pinions for... |
17lbs? You win! I see the jumbo clawdawg rubber (4lbs) and rc4wd alloy rims (~4lbs), no wonder its a beast.
I think Linc's suggestions are pretty much spot on, though I went a step further on the tranny abd bought rc4wd allot emaxx gears- not ont the site anymore by the looks of it so may be hard to locate (I have done all the internal mods mentioned including steel idler, but then the plastic output gear shredded on 2 occasions, so metal was my only other choice). |
