anything i can do to widen my rustler?

i think i remember reading that there was a mod or something i can purchase to make my trx vxl rustler wider. does anybody on here know it?
and is there something i can get to make the rustler track better at high speeds...like adding rear toe in?

i think the only way would be to use hub exptenders, but thy put alot of wear and tear on your bearings!

as for tuning heres a seet guide.

You could buy the FLM Extended Arm kit, along with the FLM Extended CVD kit. That should help. :mdr:

If you don't wanna spend lots of money, try running "front" wheels in the rear. It makes the rear track width about 1" wider.

You can convert it to use Jato control arms. I think there are some tutorials on the TRX forum on how to do it, it widens the ER a bit and makes it handle much better.

yea im coo with the hub extenders...too much strain. is there a cheaper alternative with the flm arm kit. does another company sell similiar but in plastic hahah
i was thinking a cheaper way would just to wide offset rims, but i dont think they make any for ST's. or i can put the stampede rims/tires which is wider but bigger as well, and may cause it to roll, and thats the reason in the first place why i want my rustler wider.

yea thats it...jato arms, i think thats what i read. what does ER mean? thanks for the help, ill look that up righ tnow

ER is just an easy way of saying Electric Rustler. I don't remember what modifications other than new camber links were needed to use the Jato arms, but I'm sure that you'll need the rear hubs and possibly the front C-blocks and steering spindles. The Jato rear hubs are better than the stock ones and have larger bearings but you'll need Jato drive shafts for their longer stub axles (Jato stub axles are a ton tougher than stock ER stubs). You won't be able to keep the rubber axle boot on the Jato shafts because you'll have to extend them out a ways.

Are you going to run on-road, or off? If on, then just get some shorter tires. Like Speed Hawgs or something. It will just slide instead of flipping. If off-road, IDK. I've never run my Rustler off-road...

blueb8llz 03.05.2009 02:19 AM

it will be mainly for offroad. hmm. i just researched another way to widen. i can use the rear arms to be installed in the front. i like this way better cus the jato arms make the front end much wider than the rear which makes it look funny, but handles better than the rear to front arms.

Yeah, having the front wider would make it handle wayyy better.

I have all the parts you need to widen your truck all brand new...the best way is called the "HPI way" with nitro rush arms

http://monster.traxxas.com/showthread.php?t=401849

I also have two sets of wheels that have all front rims that complete the widening project
I a set of masher 2000's and a set of anacondas
and the convertion is night and day diferance....much less flipping

My Rustler had rear arms on the front but I switched them back to the "proper" width with RPM arms.

Let me know if you'd like to see some pic's.

bustitup-the hpi wide looks just to be the same as the rpm rear to front arms mod.
i think the rpm was is prolly better since its RPM right?? shouldnt break and if the hpi breaks, i would needa do the mod again.

rcshocker-do you have the rpm arms or the stock rear arms for sale?
