which Nitro

A friend of mine is looking to buy a MT after he drove my G2 MGM160/7xl/14 GP3700 cells and my stock Revo. He just loved the add fuel and go feature of the Revo. I have to admit, since I forgot the extra batteries, the Revo was more fun that day.

Any way, the thing I found out the hard way with the E-Maxx as my first R/C was that it took a lot of money to make it bulletproof (not even there yet with the suspension). Part availability was good too. The Revo has held up to some awful endos and near head-on collisions with unmovable objects AKA trees. There are a number of nitro trucks that seem to be favorites. Which one(s) would you recommend for durability and part availability for the basher/potential racer?

Revo
Savage 25/SS
MGT
LST2
DuraTrax Warhead
Genesis
Others?

reevo! if you get bored, you can convert it to electric!

Basketti 12.30.2005 07:14 PM

I would suggest either the savage or revo.

savage if your gonna bash it hard! like doing 30ft high jumps and stuff, that thing is so much fun cause it like never breaks! and parts on ebay cost next to nothing.

I've seen the revo take a beating aswell but it wont take a savage beating. but the revo is the better race truck.

if yyou REALLY wanna go cheap. Get a t-maxx since you got a g-maxx already. Though its not much of a racer, you would be able to have interchangeable parts and that'll save you cash.

I'd say there are a few options.
You mentioned basher/potential racer, so my suggestions are based on that.

First, if your friend has no R/C equipment already and has the budget, I would recommend the LST2 since it has the very best RTR radio available, being the JR synthesized FM radio. The LST2 is a very capable basher and can be made into an average to better-than-average racer.

If he already has a good radio and/or doesn't have the budget for an LST2, I would recommend the MGT as a basher/racer and the Revo as a racer/basher, in that order.

The Savage is a very capable basher, but I've never seen a Savage that could keep up with other trucks on the track. It's a tough truck to make stable at high speeds on a track, from what I have seen. Mind you, I've never owned a Savage so my observations are just that - observations.

Make sure your friend makes his choice based on all the information available to him.

Thanks guys. I will give this information to my friend. He has experience with R/C stuff from years ago, but aside from some fresh batteries, he's looking for some new gear. From Tower's catalog, they go into detail on the Warhead and it is cheaper than most. I'm not sure of the Genesis since to be honest, I didn't hear of it before now.

I've always wondered "which Nitro" myself for the next nitro MT. Any other thoughts, I'm all ears and thanks again.

I, too, think the Warhead sounds great for the money. My only caution is that it's the first generation of the vehicle. Both the MGT and LST2 are in their second generation and have fixed issues that came up with their first releases. The Revo hasn't had any "big" issues that would cause Traxxas to release a Revo2 yet.
I'm not saying you shouldn't consider it, just make sure you understand that you'll probably be the first ones around with one so your local support and advice will be limited.

If you guys end up with a Warhead, make sure you come here and tell us about how it is :)

the warhead is like a copycat of the savage, i would pick the savage over the warhead cause the savage has been proven tough and reliable.

It actually is a bit different than savage. If anything, it is a truggy version of the Savage, because the engine and gas tank sits much lower. I'd guess it's somewhat of an inbetween much like the MGT or Revo, but I'd still go with the proven and better supported Revo or MGT over the Warhead.

I was reading a article on the war head. They seemed to have liked some of the features. Your after market parts are going to be limited to with the war head.
