That is how I do it. Works fine, and your overlap looks to be about 1" or slightly more. As long as the tire is clean the tape will stick well.

any tricks on getting the rim to slide better that wont conflict with the glue?...lol

skellyo 03.09.2009 12:31 PM

What do you mean "rim to slide better"?

Revo_Troop 03.09.2009 12:33 PM

to slide into the tire it sorta starts sticking part way

skellyo 03.09.2009 12:41 PM

You have to stretch the tire a bit to get it over the beads. Also be sure that the foam isn't wadding up.

Another trick before gluing the tires...
Scuff the bead of the wheels and tires with some scotchbrite and clean the surfaces with some alcohol to remove any residue. This will help immensely in getting the tire adhered to the wheel.

thanks for that!

I have do the same with you and I'm not happy with the result. so now I let my tire balooning again and I can handle it better than taped tire :) I'm talking here on monster tire size.
on the other way with 1/10 tire I love the result with my rustler :)

Thanks I did not know this. What type of tape is best to use.

Revo_Troop 03.10.2009 01:40 AM

I used 100mph tape...stuff I had available think as far as tape goes its pretty good.. here is the finished product...still need to seat teh bead a little better then apply the glue and ensure the bead it set right...but they are on the rim...

Off topic...but I have a question about badland tires. Looking on top, Is the other side of the tire suppose to be a little flat than the other? And also, I have maximizer beadlock 0 offset, do I need to use shim on both sides? The manual states that if using proline tires...thanks...

rhylsadar 03.13.2009 04:06 AM

hi
i did it exactly the same way.
however my longterm experience is not that good with taped tires. once some water or dirt gets into the tires (which is impossible to avoid imo) the tape can get loose and then things mess up rather quickly.

I used reinforced packing tape once to tape the tires, and my results were the same as above. Ballooned less, but still did some, tape came loose after a while and I eventually just had a wad of tape whirling around in the wheel. I had beadlocks and took it off and it was a mess. I just said screw it until I see something that works better. G/L w/ this tape.

I have gotten good results running a low profile truggy tire the shorter side wall cuts down on the balloon effect

what a coincidence that this showed up in the general discussion recently! from what ive read the kevlar works extremley well with preventing ballooning
