Gorilla Maxx single speed transmission how does it work?

Do you still have a 1st and 2second gear? or is it one gear only?

Papa 01.05.2006 08:49 PM

lol , single speed = one gear, second.:p

Chris911 01.05.2006 08:51 PM

only second gear? What happens to the fast take off you get in 1st?

Papa 01.05.2006 08:55 PM

Here is alink to the Instructions and an assembly diagram.

Second becomes first. Still lightening fast take offs. The stock low gear is basically useless once you go brushless.

Looks great i just wish it was in stock since i got the HV i never use first anymore anyway. I never did like how you have to let of the gas before you can change into 1st or second kinda defeats it's purpose.

Is that why i never use 1st anymore? why does first seem useless after going brushless anyway?

Papa 01.05.2006 09:06 PM

First gear will usually put you on your lid, or worse. The torque of most systems is great enough to launch most maxxes into a wheel stand in second gear.

Does anyone esle make a speed transmission? Do you lose reverse?

Sylvester 01.05.2006 09:11 PM

No, you cant lose reverse in electric, as the motors esc can be programmed to use reverse, i dont know of anybody else that makes it, i think g-maxx only makes it.

Papa 01.05.2006 09:12 PM

Reverse is a function of the speed control, so no reverse is still available. The biggest benefit to the single spped is weight loss. Toss in a hardened steel idler while you have it open and off you go. I have not seen another single speed conversion, short of just locking the transmission in second. Some one else will have to explain how to do that. I have not done it.

i have. lost all the slack in it to... let me know if you want instructions on how to.

Chris911 01.05.2006 10:47 PM

will it fit the stock e-maxx?

Sylvester 01.05.2006 10:55 PM

Yes it will.

RC-Monster Mike 01.05.2006 10:55 PM

Yes, it will fit the stock maxx. The single speed is a great upgrade and should be back in stock any time.

Sylvester 01.05.2006 11:23 PM

yeah, its a good way to lose weight, and the only thing you need to do is modify your input shaft which isnt hard, if you have the right tools that is.
