removing fliud from a diff

I am new to truggies so I havnt done this yet...what is the fav method of removing fliud from a diff? I was thinking maybe a Q tip.....I have 10k weight in the centerdiff I was thinking about trying 20k

I spray my diffs out w/brakeclean

Or tip half out and refill with 30k.

I also use brake cleaner after I remove the internals and wipe it out with a rag. If i want the internals clean I put them is a small mesh kitchen sieve (collendar, sp?) and spray the brake cleaner thru that too. Carb cleaner works too, or nitro clean. Whatever aerosol I can find that is cheap. I am sure that simple green and water would work well, but will require drying after you wash the internals.

I also cheat and just dump out and refill if I feel that I need thicker/thinner fluid and it hasn't been that long between changes.

If I do spray w/brakeclean, I do let all the gears dry before I reinstall.

Naptha works best for me. I put the diffs in a mesh screen in a container of naptha and they'll come out clean. The naptha dissolves the diff oil without leaving any residue.

Ah! And to think I've had a gallon container of Coleman fuel laying about and never thought to use that. Thanks for the tip! I've got a 8 spider diff that needs a flush.

where do you get naptha?

Coleman lantern fuel = naptha

Jesus, that sounds harsh.. I just pour it out and wipe w/ paper towels to get most of it off. Can't say I'm particularly anal about it, and if a tiny bit is left I don't care. I get enough chemical exposure at work so I try to avoid it everywhere else. Whatever works.

In the paint Isle at Lowes or Menards hardware stores.

Air compressor and some rags.
