I've been tossing around converting my savage to brushless. I would like to use an outrunner and make it a direct drive setup, but I can't seem to find a n out runner to do the job. I think a Scorpion outrunner would be my best bet, but my buget is kind of tight. I think the most I will spend on a motor is going to be $100. I'd like a motor that would be kind of cheap so I would have more money for other parts like better diffs or maybe another Mamba Monster. Does anybody know of anywhere I could find a motor that would fit my buget? If so Do you have a link? Thanks for any replys.

Well I can't seem to find an Axi with the shaft extending from both ends. Now what?

With 99% of outrunners you can slide the shaft through. There is a grub screw that holds the shaft onto the can. If you take apart an outrunner, you will have 3 main parts. The bell (rotor) with the magnets, the windings (stator), and the shaft comes all the way out too. Outrunners are like this not only because it is the easiest way to assemble them, but in planes it can vary which end the shaft sticks out of.

Hobbycity has really cheap outrunners that work. I have one in my crt .5. It's a blast and I would recommend the specific brand of motor I got from hobbycity. I don't know much about the other ones, but read the reviews. They should all be pretty good.

What brand is the one you have? There are a lot of different kinds.

I have the turnigy sk outrunner. 36-42mm 1100kv iirc. The hobbycity motors are measured in actual diameter as most other brands measure stator size. My motor is probably something like 28-36 or something like that.

That will probalby be a little slow. Say that motor is rated for 4-8s lipo, you'll want to run 6-7s lipo imo. You could do 8s, but that would be pushing a hobbycity outrunner. That motor is also very large. It would be around a Neu 1521 on 7-8s lipo.

I would shoot for a motor rated for about 1000w to 1500w. Probably the lower half of that. A Neu 1515 is 1250w. (all these are claimed)

You'll want to pick a motor with the right sized shaft, so keep that in mind. I think the drivecups are 8mm iirc. Check.

The thing you need to do is get on the speed calculator and figure out about what kv you'll need. Gear for about 35-45 on 5s lipo.

Honestly I think that motor is a good size for the Savage. The kv is a bit low on 5s, but would still yield about 36mph.

My recommendation would be a motor of that size with a kv of about 420. This should give an approximate 40mph assuming average 6" tall tires.

That looks like it would work pretty well to me.
