over volting servos
I have two very slow cirrus cs-80 servos on my e-maxx and I want to run them at like 7.5 volts to speed them up via a cc bec. Can I just pull the power wires to the servos and wire them directly to the cc bec, leaving the signal wire in the reciever, so as to use the internal bec on my mmm to power the receiver only and the cc bec to directly power the servos? Is this possible, or am I way off?

there are some new HV servos designed to run on 2s lipo packs but are pricey @ $200, they have been aimed at the heli guys

that low huh? They are crappy servos, I just love the clear cases. Maybe I could put the insides of a better servo in my cases?

Well, if the electronics can handle the voltage, you could use "gearing" to lessen the load/current (by using a shorter arm on the servo and longer on the steering), but that loses some of the speed by overvolting. Fully charged 5 cell NiMHs can output close to 7v fresh off the charger, so it may work, but no telling for how long.
I just looked the specs up; yeah, they are indeed slow! 111oz-in & 0.33s @ 6v. If the speed increase is linear with voltage, at 7v, they should be right around 0.19s. Still rather slow. Instead of overvolting, how about "gearing up" by using different length arms? And then use two at the same time. At 111oz-in each @ 6v, there should be enough torque. And then you could overvolt to ~6.5 max to stay safe. |
